any postie's out there getting back pain issues from picking out items from white York. how did the union accept them for use. what about the snow shovel you use to get out the little ones at the bottom

If you follow the SSOW (safe systems of work)
you won’t have a problem.

2 trays on the floor / bottom door open / pull packets towards you with the snow shovel into the trays.
(you may need to repeat twice to clear all)

Depending on how a work area is set up, the use of the shovel can be a hazard in itself if it risks hitting someone passing by on an adjacent walkway.

They are trash.

They are an occupational hazard in delivery offices. Packets spill out from the sides and the bottom and most of them end up with broken flaps leading to cuts and are moved all over the place as other Yorks are moved around the office. The use of a snow plough to deal with them is a standing joke.

Get rid of the bl**dy things!

In DOs you're probably dealing with around a dozen per day (small packets and small Tracked). In MCs we have to deal with at least 100 of them every day. Think I saw one being used for the foreign specials one day.

Our office has been allocated one snow shovel and I’ve never witnessed anyone using it.

The plastic sleeves are a hazard to anyone under a certain height because you can’t see where you are going and has anyone else had a plastic sleeve cut?!?! They’re awful things.

They are awful. You end up having to lean in and over to retrieve heavy Amazon boxes before you can even release the straps. Recipe for back problems if doing more than a few times a day. They also don’t nestle very well, and the corrugated sleeve can also stop the York sides locking into place. Just rubbish.

There must be a better York design, perhaps just diagonal bars added to standard Yorks, to stop smaller packets escaping.

I know what, put all shoebox size and above boxes in a bare frame and for smaller boxes packets design a sort of sleeve that fit inside a frame and which (when properly maintained) rises as items are taken out. Oh wait a minute......

Just step hard on one corner, that does the trick.

If you get a really heavy packet it's no longer a 2 person lift as 1 person has to lift it out before the other person can help.

Therein lies the problem in its entirety with this job , too many people in positions of influence that have never done the hard yards on delivery,or did it so long ago their experience is no longer relevant. Same thing applies to the top of the union as well.

They got brought in to enable much better loading of mail into the machines in the superhubs and any PSM MCs. With the old red sleeves, mail can get stuck at the bottom.
