If it's that bollocks where there's a continuous line of fittings and they decide how much you do dependant on how busy it is then I think I read on here that you can still select which section is yours (subject to the variation) so presumably not quite the end as far as picking duties is concerned.

In a word: Yes. Maybe not today or next year but eventually... yes. "I heard..." or "the CWU said...", or "the rep here is certain that..." will mean zero (eventually). If they trial Delivery 2.0 and it doesn't get shot down immediately (if it needs to be - keeping an open mind) it will slowly get adopted.

How can you still have "your bit" (duty) when the point of it is to flex the number of calls based on mail volume? "Your bit" would then expand into the neighbouring duty holder's "bit". Or you'll have to do an extra bit from further down the continuous frame which is like er, lapsing

We did the bench merging trial and that was a disaster. It didn't stop those running it (non-posties) being all upbeat and positive all the way through. Negative feedback meant lots of frowns and "hmmms" ("your not a team player" written all over their faces). Positive feedback (when you struggled to say something nice) got big smiles. And then time ticked on, heard nothing, and then "we're not taking it any further". Most of us could have said that it was a non-starter if they just presented the idea over free coffee and cake and we could have listed the problems - they could have listened and worked to resolve the obvious problems before a trial. But they don't seem to want to work like that. They get an idea into their head and think moving lots of things around in the office will have us working better.

They seem to like to keep as quiet as possible. Everyone locally therefore doesn't buy into anything they are trying to do and therefore (perhaps rightly) won't lift a finger to help.
