Hi, I’ve just had a meeting with my manager about him wanting to extend the network window and basically getting us to work later. As I have school age children I’ve said I can’t do that. He is happy for me to stay on my existing hours but has told me to contact HR and complete a family friendly form. Can anyone tell me where to find this. I’ve tried calling HR but can’t speak to a person. Many thanks, Beth

He should provide you with the form , he then sends it off for consideration and then he meets with you to discuss the situation.

The experience again varies wildly from area to area. Here, my DOM is also being impacted by the changes, albeit small in our case, and is bending over backwards to accommodate anyone who needs to keep the earlier changes to finish time.

Folks that wanted ‘family friendly’ at our place couldn’t see that they could also do night shift and get home to take kids to school, seems work is a bit of an inconvenience when it gets in the way of your social life. Golf won’t play itself !

I thought the exceptions request had to be done via the People app and the window for making such requests has now passed?

Aren't we working later as the mail will come in later.....so how can 'family friendly hours' even be a thing?

+ The parcels and IPS needs to be sorted my multiple people so that everyone can get on and sort their own round. Granted - you could come in a little earlier as door2doors will need to be done and maybe the mech will be ready to sort?

The second wave will contain minimal work to be honest.
To change the starting times drastically for the sake of 3-4 % of the work seems non sensical to be honest.
Also they are leaving themselves a massive buffer time in some areas leading me to think maybe there is a bit of skulduggery at play.
Allot of places need not move by more than thirty minutes but the company are digging their heals in.
They was us working later in the day to incorporate the LAT product on deliveries and pick up some collections work eventually.
Maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist.

Is the issue in MCs to do with the school drop off or pick up? Because if people are currently doing the pick up, telling the other parent (or person who does the drop off) "I'm going on nights now so either you change your hours to suit Royal Mail or I will do both parts of the school run and survive on that 5 hour window in the day that I would have time to sleep" might not fly.

There must be time in all units as opgs are still coming in on O/T on a regular basis and it's usually the same ones

Possibly.
I think we could move to more hybrid delivery/collection dutys in the future with less indoor and more outdoor like the competition.
That could be their aim anyway.
In all honestly if the back end of the duty was clearing post offices and doing LATs then it may be less taxing on the body.
But that is presuming they will make the deliveries shorter to do that extra work.
Knowing royal mail they probably won't.

With enough duties in an office then prepping D2Ds could be a FT duty in itself. There's always something needs doing.

That would be the most mind numbingly soul destroying duty in the world.

My old DO used to make some OPGs on light duties do this for 5 hours a day when walks were regularly getting 5,6 and 7 D2Ds weekly a few years back. I suspect it was to try and get them back on the walks quicker.
