RMCtv : Nationwide rollout of 3,000 parcel lockers - initial phase in Coventry next month

We are excited to announce a new partnership with global parcel locker operator Quadient for the use of their parcel lockers. This will give our customers even more choice and convenience when sending and receiving parcels and further extends our out of home services.

The initial phase will launch in the Coventry postcode area in April, with plans to expand as Quadient roll out lockers nationwide in the coming months.
More than 1,500 lockers are likely to be in use by Royal Mail by the end of the year with further plans for 3,000 across the UK. The lockers are not exclusive to Royal Mail.

Alongside other recent announcements about expansions to the network, this means that Royal Mail customers will have more than 21,000 locations where they can drop off parcels for delivery.

Extending our out of home network
The lockers will initially allow customers to drop off returns and pre-paid parcels, with further developments to come to enable customers to have items delivered to the lockers for pick up.

The partnership with Quadient adds to the recent announcement that Royal Mail customers will be able to use up to 5,000 Collect+ stores to drop off and collect parcels.

Together, this will increase the number of locations where customers can drop off parcels to more than 21,000, including 3,000 lockers, 11,500 Post Office branches, 5,000 Collect+ stores, 1,200 Royal Mail customer service points and 1,200 parcel postboxes.

Straightforward process for collection colleagues
Our collection OPGs will be able to access the parcel lockers using a QR code that will be generated on the PDAs. They will collect from the Royal Mail branded boxes as well as other lockers on occasions when a parcel is too large.

Chief Commercial Officer, Nick Landon, said: ‘The launch is an important part of Royal Mail’s strategy to continue to make sending and receiving parcels as convenient as possible by adding more choice, and I look forward to seeing the lockers going live very soon.’

Hmmm, I'm not really sure about this, as I've had issues with getting access to these types of lockers before.

Maybe I'm old fashioned and perhaps it's a younger person type service, but I see problems ahead.

Has anyone else experienced issues before, please advise ?

I've only used the Amazon lockers and they were fine.

How can you have problems accessing them when you simply just enter a pin no on the number pad and the door opens?

Who will be putting the items into these lockers would it be a set duty of would have a line of vans turning up the same time as each other and what would be the priority parcels in locker then start on your delivery we are getting out later and later every day as it is

I can just imagine everyone doing an individual locker box as lapsing: 15 vans all pulled up onto the kerb, everyone scrambling over each other, a cacophony of PDA beeps, members of the public standing slack-jawed as I try to explain the logic of lapsing to them.

Surely whoever's round the locker box is on would do the collection from that locker box? And they are going to need a bigger boat...

I've never seen as much money spend on so much rubbish as royalmail spend on things that don't work and end up in the dump if they were to spend that on delivery then it would be a far better service all round in stead off trying 2 save 20 minutes here are there it's the man and women on the street that makes these companie and they are losing them fast

They’re expert at spaffing profit up the wall.

Also, not only will we be leaving parcels in lockers, but there are also parcel drop off shops mentioned. So almost every round will have at least one local collect point to visit. This is all going to be joyous. Think I’ll be finished by about 4pm if I’m lucky.

It only sounds like a great idea if you are OK with people losing their jobs for the sake of convenience.

Just wait until someone puts the wrong parcel in the wrong locker, it’s odds on to happen.
