WTF is really going on?

Post by scotchy1962 »

Does anyone have a clue, the dom/dims don't seem to, neither do the union, i most certainly don't and from what i read on here on various topics neither do any of you.
A business is meant to have a clear forward thinking yearly plan which leads to a certain outcome, hopefully profitable but not necessarily as long as it is in the long term.
None of these appear to apply to RM, or am i missing something?
I don't really give a feck as i approach retirement, but i figure some of you guys/gals might be interested as it's your future.
Also the union, is it a dead duck or does it have a future as a meaningful power for the workers or just a company lackie, merely getting lip service from RM.

It would be nice to work with the company to help achieve the best possible outcomes for them and us which would increase productivity and revenue for them and put a few extra pounds in our pockets. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem possible right now and the toxic environment continues.

Sadly it has always been that way and I doubt it will ever change, especially with the brain dead management class we have to work under.

Management (those that I see at local level) are purely reactive to day to day situations with no attempts to improve anything even
when suggested by colleagues on the shop floor.

Any changes that are implemented come down from high level based on spreadsheets and data and with hardly any
reference to the local situation and invariably make things worse. Furthermore, when those bad changes are implemented there's
no review to see if there's been an improvement.

New Management are young inexperienced Graduates, they are yes men/women.They have no clue as to what is in a duty.
What they do have is a spreadsheet & figures that tell them what they are asking is possible.
They have a budget which they must keep too, regardless of quality of service.
RM top Management don’t give a crap about quality of service, they have saved millions by reducing it & given a paltry 5.7 million fine.
The new employees are not staying, the vehicles are shot, held together with tape & it’s becoming embarrassing to state you work for RM.
Come June 17th it’s going to get worse.

Spot on, we've had quite a few "managers" over the years and it's difficult to recall anything vaguely proactive that any of them have done.

I think the network moves away from aircraft and it all going by road? The question “WTF is really going on” is the question I’ve been asking myself for best part of 18 months and I’m to in the twilight of my working career and I’ve been in this company for knocking on 40 years and the management in Royal Mail have always been quite a bit inept but this new breed are on a different level of inept and arrogance :arrrghhh the lower ranks are shite scared of making a decision and the lot above dictate to the extent they are paralysing the rest of the company and the union are no where to be seen  so I definitely think that something is going to give in the very near future and not for the good I walk into the Mail centre I’m working at and there used to be 80+ strong workforce in the morning shift as of today there is only 9 and 8 managers and us in distribution have been told they want to cull us but can’t even afford the absolute diabolical vr package they hand out now so (and this is from the management) they are going down the road of micromanaging all of us with the hope of we f-up and they can get rid of us that way and in the meantime all area management can now apply for an electric vehicle as a company car

I really suspect it's something like Amazon taking RM out from the inside. No one could cause RM to regress from the smooth operation that it was to the shitshow it is now in such a short space of time without strategy and commitment. Incompetence alone only goes a tiny way to explaining it. There is a deliberate agenda to make this company as piss poor as possible. You have to ask "who benefits from that?" The only ones I can come up with are competitors and, I suppose to some point, some large scale shareholders if the land and building assets get sold off.

Also, whatever's "in it" for OFCOM to carry on evading doing their job, needs exposure and pulling to bits.

Royal Mail also like to continually compare us to Amazon and cite them as a competitor but I need it explained to me how we are Amazon's competitors. Amazon deliver directly from their own warehouses. They dont deliver for ASOS or M&S or Adidas etc like we do. Royal Mail doesnt have warehouses full of products that are sold on RoyalMail.com which makes up the bulk of the business. If we ceased to exist how would Amazon benefit? DPD and Evri sure, but how would Amazon? Dont they actually get RM to deliver some of the stuff its not cost efficient for them to?

I think its like comparing apples and oranges. Yes the two companies are both ''fruit'' in that they both deliver parcels but completely different models and not competing for the same share of the market.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I think a good chunk of RM buildings are actually leased.

Don't think local management have any effective authority any more, seems like they just implement whatever they're ordered to by higher up, and if they don't they get moved on.
