In my humble opinion royal mail are the fourth emergency service, providing communication and comunity support, weather you are aware of it or not.
all staff are subliminally and institutionally groomed over time to become an army of upright workers with a strong moral code of practice.and will always weed out the s**t bags, both in and out of management.
So hold your head up high, none of us likes the way we have been treated by the fat cats and senior management who have no clue what happens in the office or on the streets.
just like to say we had many young girls start that amazed me,only to work a year and get maternity leave, i think they work it out at the gym !
I'm seventeen years done, now retired with a s**t pension.

Was wondering what the young girls bit was about ?
We only have a few women in ours and they all came back after maternity leave. Also 17 years isn't really that long in postal terms.

Hey are you a young girl that might get pregnant ?

If so get a job as a postie now, stick it out for about a year, have your baby they'll pay you 6 months maternity pay and you can just leave

While the company has successfully cultivated a workforce that don't give a damn anymore and has driven the quality of service into the abyss, it never used to be that way. This is lamentable.

newbie by your standards perhaps, but because i chose royal mail to "round off" my working life after 25 years as a self employed bricklayer, i have earned my state pension which is only a few weeks away. your presumed seniority is only proof of your institutionalization.my post was intended to praise the staff not put them down.and i think i know your type. one of the three senior opg allong with the coach! with good "local kowledge" who hover arround the cover manager that dosent have a clue who or where they are. guess what, seniority gets the easy ride. guess what, i said from the start, i dont do overtime, and i dont go over ! ended up going from 25 hours to 32, nice four day week with my own fixed duty, till it all turned to worms and the revision was a joke, patched frames, double slots, bits on, bits off, and the sorters still putting mail in the old walks boxes for every duty,(often on purpose) could'nt wait to leave. so for those of you still wondering what a s**t show is, see the above !

Newbie What is it with comments like this making a mockery of anyone with less than a couple of decades worth of service. 17 years is a solid stint and let's be honest the same folk who churn these comments out will no doubt have had an easy 30 years delivering a dozen letters a day

Exactly. You could argue that people who have served that long, have done the real years given how it has changed since privatisation. Massive respect. I can’t see many recent starters hanging around for that long.

Seems my comment has been misinterpreted which is probably my fault. It was a joke that most posties repeat that if you haven’t done 30 years then you’re still new. For what’s it’s worth I’ve only done 12 and have one of the shittiest longest delivery’s in our office that nobody with more than 15 years would touch.
My overall response was an attempt to have a dig back at the OP for a frankly weird and misogynistic comment about “young girls” which along with casual racism is rife amongst staff in Royal Mail.

Who would do 30 years plus? I mean most of us have had better jobs physically than how it is now, plus working elsewhere gives you different and better experiences, I have had 15 years here and can’t see it being more than 20

I've got 27 years in, walks were easier when I started, 3 bags a day, no packets, but we did 41.5 hours, 6 days a week, for poor pay, swings and roundabouts.
