Aldi have announced a wage increase as from June 1st.

However new starters at RM are on £12.29 per hour!

If people can put up with even worse hours and terms and conditions then go for it. Ours are getting worse, Aldi are there already.

You're in for a shock if you think just because a slight pay increase makes it worth the jump, retail work, working latest, weekends, under watch all the time. I wouldn't do it for £17/hour

It's a no brainer for anyone contemplating one of RMs new contracts. Id stay well clear. I wish I had all those years ago.

Don't our PDA's keep a watch on us at the time? The new DPR drivers have to work until 7/8pm each night plus weekends so that's hardly any different than retail?

Aldi also pay breaks and offer 28 days holidays!

The worst 2 things about being a postie are....

-Harassment and lies from management.

-Being absolutely knackered at the end of the day. Walking the distances we walk is plain ridiculous and utter madness.


For these reasons I will likely leave soon.... but not to Aldi....

but understand why the grass is probably greener for a lot of people. I'd just hate working in retail...and although being a postie is not a cool job - working in Aldi is much less cool.

Never a truer word said. The amount of people I know who reapply is unreal. I’d love to see some of the old timers I know try and hack a supermarket job.

Ive worked in various DIY chains and would only go back if it was totally necessary,stuck in a building for 8 to 9 hours with two of the shifts 11am to 8pm remember most superstores are open 8 till 8,constantly being asked were a product is as well as the customer is always right moaners,its about time they were paid better.

Who would want to work at Aldi though? I love the shop but the staff look miserable and harassed plus, none of them stay very long.

This is comparing apples with pears. The current Aldi rate is £12 per hour, with it rising to £12.40 per hour. The current RM rate is variable, depending on office, but any RM employees currently on £12.29 per hour will have it raised by 2% to £12.54 in April though, no? Either way, RM pays more.
