Overtime ban o'clock
Well we got told today that as of next week, part timers can only get called in early "a maximum of twice a week" for the foreseeable, to "save hours." Obviously this is doomed to fail, as we have a high volume of PT staff and most of us are in early double prepping walks, but apparently "too many people are signing out early"
When pressed on who is managing to clear and come back early, the managers told us it's all in one section, all full time staff and none of them ever clear, just stop at 1 and go home. So their solution to this issue is to financially penalise anyone who is "newer" to the business and leave the people causing the problem to carry on, as I'd happily put money on us all coming in to unprepared, unmanageable frames just in time to see the full timers sailing out of the door.
What an awful company
Yesterday one of our 30hr staff managed to finish an hour early and was sent back out with 2 bundled loops that one of the FT staff had dumped on his frame having already gone home. Did management say a word to the FTer? Of course not, the work went out so problem solved

All i can say, is the management in this company is terrible at every level. Everyday in our office, the favouritism and really poor office management is almost unbearable, incompetence is rife in Royal Mail.

Agree of course that it’s wrong, but that should be a lesson to never arrive back an hour early. Re attempt any 739’s, deliver any miss sorts and go for a ‘comfort ‘ break, anything but get back that early . Certain people will get away with stuff, others not so. You have to manage and look after yourself in this game.

I can't even imagine anyone being able to finish early or to even clear a duty.

Just have to ride it out. They tried this at our place during the strikes and it lasted a day before they realised no one was getting any work out

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
The problem is that the people who are now being told they can only work (and get paid) 32 hours a week are mostly all doing as you say, the hours are being lost by a specific group of older men who happily tell people how they can get away with anything and they all seem to (one of them has had 2 grievances for making graphically sexual comments/threats to girls over half his age in the last 7 months and yet he remains.)SMS1969 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 18:17Agree of course that it’s wrong, but that should be a lesson to never arrive back an hour early. My issue is that the company is penalising the harder working staff instead of calling out the "xx22 firm" (as they call themselves.... Xx is instead of the actual postcode) for cutting off early every day

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
So either A) they tie up half their walk and go out with it, finish between 11-12 then go home, or B) (aka "been told to take it all out as they keep coming back early") they take all the work and come back for 1pm whether the work is finished or not, then kick up such a fuss at having to put their own bundles back in that their manager hides in the office for a few days.
There are 7 of them that do it, and the managers are terrified of upsetting them

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
You realise we are coming to the end of the financial year, a time when managers like to try and save money to line their pockets with bonuses from any yearly budget savings. It's happened every year since i started.
Occasionally you find a manager who doesn't care about a bonus and he concentrates on getting everything delivered, but they are rarer than hens teeth nowadays.
Now i am not saying what you have said isn't what's happening, just letting you know this does happen.

Quite a specific or odd post.Kenfandango wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 18:44The problem is that the people who are now being told they can only work (and get paid) 32 hours a week are mostly all doing as you say, the hours are being lost by a specific group of older men who happily tell people how they can get away with anything and they all seem to (one of them has had 2 grievances for making graphically sexual comments/threats to girls over half his age in the last 7 months and yet he remains.)SMS1969 wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 18:17Agree of course that it’s wrong, but that should be a lesson to never arrive back an hour early. It's not the older guys getting away with anything at ours. It's the younger cheeky ones that they wish to retain at all costs.
As for the "girls" at ours, and we do not have many, they would certainly tell him where to go.
But I do recognise the type.

Re: Overtime ban o'clock
Make it cost them (management) to upset you. When they want you in for your two designated earlies, tell them you've got used to your lie-ins and you're sticking with them for a bit, they'll have to work something else out. I think these 7 just know how the game is played and management have learned that it's not worth their while upsetting them.Kenfandango wrote: ↑07 Mar 2024, 18:50There are 7 of them that do it, and the managers are terrified of upsetting them
