Change in Working Hours - Twice in 12 months!!

Post by Tiddler »

First of all I want to say that I know the business needs to change and they need to have later deliveries/collections to achieve this.

Last August my working shift was adjusted along with many others so that I was starting & finishing 1hr 10 mins later.
This wasn't ideal but I accepted it was necessary and was rewarded with a pay rise as the new finish time meant that I qualified for the Night Shift allowance.

Now I get called in by the Ops Manager yesterday to be told that my hours will be shifting again wef from June, and will be starting/finishing a further 1 hrs later. So in less than 12 months I've gone from finishing at 1.50 am to finishing at 4am from June 2024.
Whilst some staff who had not had their times changed last year have had amendments this year, others who are on similar finish times to my self have not had their times changed and are staying on 3am finishes.
The finish times are having serious effect on life outside of work, as waking wife up when I come home, affects her sleep patterns & we both end up knackered all the time.

I queried the fact that my time had already been changed once and was told that it would be changed every 12 mths if necessary. Is this correct? I thought the max change under the new agreement was 90 mins.

It is unfortunately the case that come June 17th 1000’s of people will be affected.
The later starts will be applicable to all, nights in MC’s will probably start at midnight for full timers in those with 60+ later despatch times.
My personal thoughts are those within delivery who need to pick up kids, RM have shafted them & I do not think the new “agreement” will hold much stead.
This will probably lead to 1000’s leaving, hence the reason for an influx of new staff now.
Not to sound callous, are just a number!
And yes, I believe they can do what they are doing, I hope I’m proved wrong.

In some MCs early shift will be able to do the late inward, provided nights take on some more 2C and T48 to free up capacity on earlies

I believe our world has changed. Some people, supernumeraries and all else either move to new times and roles or put simply decide that this job isn't for them anymore.

What Royal mail has taught me since the dispute is simple. An opg is just a job and like the rest of the world, if your not happy, find another job.

They don't care about your concerns, your life or anything, unless it financially benefitting the business.

Harsh I'm sorry.

I nearly lost my early shift job and would of moved onto weekends before nights.

Good luck in your choices.

In our workplace our work is getting changed weekly. I have to do printouts to prove it can't be done. I'm glad I've only got 11 years till I'm 65.
With all the s**t happening, I still believe in strength in numbers, and will always believe in the CWU.
Anyone who has stopped their subs are as dumb as s**t, or just plain selfish.
Sometimes we have to take a hit and rebuild.

I believe they only need to give 30 days notice of a change of hours so in theory they could change everyone hours once a month. Don't know off-hand what the exact threshold is for a change of hours triggering a re-sign.

Id never become a rep after the way the CWU treated them during the last strike, after the first few reps were sacked on jumped up charges the whole country should of been out ,it was absolutely sickening to watch ,our rep never got reinstated for a jumped up charge i cant even put it into words how i despise everyone at the top of Royal Mail and the CWU a like for what they have done.

‘The later starts will be applicable to all’
Some will only be affected by 15 mins while’s others have to suck up 90 mins. We all work for the same company, yet some DOs getting shafted while some are mildly affected.
How can this possibly be fair across the board ?

They all got their jobs back though didn't they?

That Sean06 is just a new version of Aiden01. Complete troll here, look at their post history, ridiculous doesn't even begin to scratch the surface.

Make of that what you will but it's a troll account and a toxic desperado one at that. Genuinely worrying :cuppa
