Cut off half my walk on 22nd March...MASSIVE amount of everything just couldnt get done. Its shocking how saturdays are now the heaviest day but we get 2 and a half hours less to do it plus we cant take a break till the end of the duty.
Manager told me to leave what i couldnt do in the frame.
When tuesday comes do i have to deliver what i left on saturday as tuesdays are generally lighter? If so this isnt fair working practice in my eyes as they can flood the workforce with mail at anytime and, instead of paying for overtime, get us to deliver it on another day.
Is leaving mail in the frame willfull delay?

Yes unfortunately you will have to deliver it on Tuesday but off course they can only force you to do that up to your contracted times. After that its entirely up to you. If you leave mail in the frame without permission its willfull delay, if a manager gives you permission on does it himself its done for "operational" reasons. Fair no but at least your backs covered.

Leaving mail in the frame is not wilful delay on your part because your manager said so. He/She obviously had plans for someone else to cover that section of your walk, and if he/she failed to do that then that is their responsibility. You only have to work your contracted hours and you went through the correct procedure to make sure you could not be held to blame.
I don't think there's a standard procedure for delivery of mail left from a previous day, but you can always cut off again if you think it will mean you're going to run late. It's up to management to make sure their quality of service hits targets, especially now with Postcomm and Postwatch checking every aspect of our service.
It sounds like you haven't had longs and shorts introduced in your office yet, but in the case you describe here it would actually help you out - instead of being forced into an abnormally heavy Tuesday, you would be able to cut off earlier - our office has only 7 hours 15 mins on a Tuesday for a town round, so you can get a lighter day whether a lot of mail comes in that day or not!

yea longs and shorts are here. 620am start as opposed to 600am on weds and 540am thursdays/friday...add WTL on tuesday plus Mondays work and all hell will break loose again.
The job is becoming impossible to do on a saturday...how can managers ensure that all the mail gets through as per the USO if DSA is pushed through on the shortest day of the week?
Weve recently got a new DOM and since he's been in charge the job has become near on impossible.

In that lies the problem. Ever since the top management changed the top down style has taken over. Before Mangers used to go to long term posties and get guidance from people who knew the job and area inside out. Now Managers are not allowed to manage and decisions are not made locally but from on high. Now I am just a pleb but as we provide a local service wouldn't it be better to let Local management make decisions rather than be dictated from on high.
