Weekend Duties / Sunday Duties, Reserved Rights ?????

Post by booby »

In my office the CWU has signed an agreement to cease:-

Weekend Duties
Sunday Duties
Reserved Rights

Just wondering how many offices this affects?

Does it affect your office?

We have weekend (with reserved rights) and Sunday duties/OT in my MC.
We have heard that all Network Distribution on Sundays is to cease in June and
that management will then be looking to cease Sunday working, and looking
to clear the office by 2200 on Saturday.
I believe that CWU Branch have asked the National Officer to take this up.

I wonder if my branch will do the same,
although once one branch makes contact with a national officer this will become a national matter,
I am curious as to how many people and offices are affected by these changes,
and I find myself wondering has anyone got a 'cunning plan' :chuckle

I would think it will affect most if not all MCs, as we despatch to
every MC on Sunday.
Even if our last despatch becomes a 2200 on Saturday,
it would still arrive on Sunday presumably.

yeah.. thats my thinking. all mc's will be affected.
RM are using these network changes as an excuse to snatch my contract, as the mail will still be in the building all day sunday.

weekend working

we're all worried about this. the national plan is to get rid of all premier hour workings ie sundays @ bank holidays. you are right that they are using network revisions for this. in our office they have already stopped dispatches and collections on a sunday and have already curtailed many of the scheduled attendances. the pressure on mondays is now massively increased, and they are failing regularly against they're own workplan and the national agreement with the national union. separate note, are any offices being issued with stages for part days and letters warning about the use of special leave even when that special leave is legally protected by family crisis legislation. Again separately, are any other mail centers being asked to dump mail to protect their clear office policy. Lastly, I agree that the deal was asking us to kiss ass but remember it still has to be ageed locally and there still is the option of unofficial action regardless of what our div reps and some of our national leadership say.. yours

hi naillm.

we are also very worried about the future of our jobs. infact they are causing some people great worry.
i think that these changes will also cause our office to fail regularly on sunday nights - monday mornings.

as regards to special leave. we were informed that short notice paid or unpaid leave must stop.
any person needing short notice leave must pre-arrange this and work the hours needed back, in advance, where possible. crystal ball job?!?

how can they take special leave away when its whole purpose is for unforseen domestic distress at short notice ?

They probably saw this notice in Old Street and didn't realize it was a joke.

Notice to Employees

(Includes Part Time Workers)

SICKNESS
We will no longer accept your doctors' statements as proof. We believe if you are able to go to the doctor, you are able to work.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE FOR SURGERY
We are no longer allowing this practice. As long as you are employed here, you will need all of whatever you have and should not consider having anything removed. We hired you as you are, and to have anything removed would certainly make you less than we bargained for. Anyone having operations will be FIRED immediately.

PREGNANCY
In the event of extreme pregnancy, you will be allowed to go to the first aid room when the pains are FIVE MINUTES apart. IF it is false labor, you will have to take an hour's leave without pay.

DEATH
This will be accepted as an excuse, BUT we would like two weeks notice, as we feel it is your duty to teach someone your job prior to . . . or after death.

This new benefit program started yesterday.
