Over 10 years ago I had an arranged phone call from occupational health due to thyroid problems, now if I’ve got this right I was told that due to my ongoing illness I would be covered if I went sick and not get put on a stage ?
I now have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in hip and knee but my line manager says she can’t refer me because I haven’t gone off sick with this and occupational health won’t arrange a phone call until I have. So I’m struggling to get through a days work due to the arthritis and occupational health don’t want to know, but as soon as I go sick with it they will chat to me ?
I have a work plan from the hospital including reduced hours, change of driving hours and change of vehicle which my line manager has dismissed, has the occupational health goalposts moved or has my line manager got a bit confused

Re: Occupational Health
Unfortunately that is royal mail policy. It doesn't make any sense but they will only help you if you go sick. They have a different referral for you if your off to that which they give you if your in. If your in work and they do your referral and then you go off sick they will cancel your referral. I have grappled with this for years as I've always wanted to keep a good sick record. They won't make any adjustments unless it's backed by there therapists. And they wonder why the sick rate is so high!
