DO shuts early on Sat with my stuff inside.

As a late starter my finish time on a saturday is now after the DO is locked up.
So it looks like I'm in the position where my belongings will be inaccessable to me after i finish on saturdays. My bike lights, gloves, waterproofs, civi clothes and bag will stay there over the weekend and i have to cycle in on monday (and over the weekend) with no lights or protective clothing. Is that right? Shouldn't i have free access to my locker and essential equipment at the end of my duty?

I think it is quite ridiculous that we are now expected to deliver on Saturdays without support facilities i.e. TSO's closing at 12:30 - managers going home at 10:00 a.m. - no access to your base unit for personal items or more importantly accident reporting - no box collections after 12 for items pouched off meaning customers may have to wait until Tuesday for an item failed on Saturday - the customers think the service is bad - it's even worse for people like us.

I still believe that there should be a manager at the DO's until the last postman has returned. If they were to leave me locked out then I'd just leave the van/bike and the bags/returns at the gate and go home (it's their problem not ours)

Completely agree on both points.
What can I do in this situation then? I'm could easily get killed biking it into work on a dark monday morning with no lights.

This is a problem for you that needs to be converted into a problem for someone else.
If you are to be denied access to your things after your delivery, you could do your work in your own clothes, and you could take your lights, bag etc. with you. If you then can't deliver much mail, due to restrictions on the total weight you are allowed to carry, that is a pity but it will be your manager's problem and not yours. Warn him that you will have to do this if he doesn't sort something out; ideally get your Union rep involved. Or perhaps you could be given a set of keys?

it is and it isn't. on a gloomy morning even in mid march lights are essential on the busy roads i bike. also i might go out sat/sunday night - with no lights? no thanks.

great point jemima, i now need to make them aware but was wondering if they can get away with saying 'tough', we need to lock up at that time and what i could say in response. big do, can't see them giving me keys. will post back with outcome.

come monday morning ring the office and tell the fuxxwit of a dom to come and get you and the bike with no lights. if he says no tell him when its safe for you to come in on the bike with no lights you will. and give the fuxxwit a handback.

I have experianced the same problems at my D.O and had many arguments with the managers about it. What I now have to do is leave my belongings in a spare dropbox at the office so I can collect them after work. It just seems stupid to me that the D.O is not open while postpeople are still out on delivery, what would happen if someone has an accident like a dogbite and needs to use the first aid box?

If the management don't wish to help you resolve this problem with you then I would start cutting off.

I'm a newbie and obviously a bit slow still. I couldnt believe it when I got back at 12:45 on my first Saturday and everything was locked up!!!

Just as a matter of interest where do you leave your bike opgpat? You obviously don't take it on delivery with you.
