Manager Face to Face Meeting...?

Dear All,

I'll try and keep this as simple as possible!

I have been off sick from work for a few months with a chest complaint, it turns out I've got Asthma and only found out last week from my test results.

My line manager now wants to do a Face to Face meeting to discuss it.

But I really don't feel well enough to be dragged into the office to sit through the same spiel that can be discussed over the telephone.

I've also recently been told that my blood pressure is very high. None of this is helping.

Where do I stand?

I have tried to explain to him that I'm not feeling well enough but he just seems to ignore whatever I say

It's bullying .if you go in they'll say that if you can manage to come to the office you're well enough for light duties. And as we all know there's no such thing

I don't disagree there.

He basically threatened to stop my pay, then realised I was on nil pay anyway due to so many absences based on my conditions.

They kept telling me, if I could manage going to a hospital appointment for an echocardiogram, I could go into work for a meeting...

Slippery slope.

God forbid I'm on their side, but after a few months the face to face is inevitable. I'm sure he /she or however they identify will be supportive.

Asthma is a disability and it's covered under the equality act, make sure to mention this next time they phone. You should be getting paid.

If entitlement to full and half rate sick pay has been exhausted, employees who
are contributing members of the Royal Mail Pension Plan and were members
of the Royal Mail Pension Plan on or before 31st March 2018 will be paid at a
rate equivalent to the highest rate of pension they would be eligible to receive
if retired on ill health grounds, or sick pay at half rate if lower

Also, because you have a disability or are covered under the equality act, it does not mean you get infinate sick pay.
If you have used all your sick pay up, you have used it all up.

they can sack u if u refuse to follow procedure, ie meet them, u can knock back the first one say ur not up to it, but if u knock back a second meeting they can dismiss u for not being able to do ur job, its all pressure tactics to either get u to come back or resign or sack u

No harm my friend lots of questions on different threads what answer do you want that will really help you.

Why can he not do this over the phone? or even email thing is they demand this and that why not phone your rep if you do not have one just follow the contact advice on absence procedure ie contact by phone or email. If you are really brave ask them to come to you in your house but it's like inviting a vampire in your house!

its because its designed for them to put pressure on u to either resign with the pressure, come back, or not follow their procedure and get sacked. You could buy urself some time and say ur not up to meeting for now maybe buy u a few weeks, but when they come back and request another meeting u have no choice but to go in and see them if u want to keep ur wages thats the procedure unfortunately
