Well, went for an interview to become a bus driver yesterday & got another coming up next week with another company. Fingers crossed. I won't be sorry to leave Royal Mail!
Funny thing was, I was sitting there in the interview room & the guy said to me....."We like Royal Mail drivers, we've interviewed 3 already this week." Looks like there are plenty of other like minded people around.
How many others are looking for another job, I wonder?
excellent! i thought of bus driving also, but not sure how i would cope driving all day!! i wudnt mind doing term time driving the schools tho , hopefully anywhere else we go to if leave royal mail are not as bad as r mail. I really enjoy walking and that has been what has kept me in r m, i have a decent walk which i can work around if mail heavy, but i hate being in the office!!!

I was very harshly treated by the bus company I was driving for. They sacked me after I was involved in a collision with another vehicle, that they said was down to my negligence. It couldn't have been my fault though, as I was upstairs collecting the fares at the time
They phoned me today & asked me to go for a medical, so looks like it all went OK.
TBT, thanks for the link, I'll look through it when I get a chance. Not too sure about the T&C's though, so I'm going to see how it goes with the other company next Tuesday.
I'll keep everyone posted when I've got more time. (Daughter & granddaughters over at the moment.)

With all due respect the T&G isn't the best union , you've had deregulation since 85 , these big companies like Last Group and Stagecoach are very aggressive , we've had a bus war in my town , the big bus company managers have caused RMT & ASLEF reps a lot of problems on the railways so it could be out of the frying pan and into the fire ; as bad as Billy Bunter & Frank Butcher are on one side and L&C on the other .
MURDERERS. Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via DHL. You will never see it again.

With no Driving Allowance in Royal Mail now, except reserved rights, many will be looking elsewhere for better paid driving jobs.

A bus company waits ages for a Royal Mail driver and then three of them come along all at once - typical !
Interesting,bus drivers were queing to come to the post a few years ago,we've got 2 at our place,how times change!!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
I think it depends on where you're going to be driving.
In London a bus driver's job is pretty stressful. dealing with London traffic, obnoxious,
drunk, and violent passengers, especially at night. Rowdy schoolkids. Split shifts, and
pay that is even less than RM since privatisation.
Might be better in rural areas though, but maybe a rural postie/drivers job might be
better too.
us and thems good -First Group aren't popular -strangely enough Stagecoach & First Group were not too popular with the RMT & ASLEF when running railway franchisees , A H&S rep getting seven final warnings on a link provided by a poster on here
