Dog Bite Advice

Hello,

Can anyone give advice, procedure, for a dog bite?

This morning I was walking back on the pavement to the drop box when two ladies, known on my round, walk towards me, one with a lab and the other with a bull-Mastiff (both on leads). The lady with the mastiff sidelines me on the road to allow distance as the mastiff becomes slightly aggressive. The lab is dead friendly and comes forward for attention. I stop and give it a little fuss and quickly the mastiff becomes aggressive and the women looses control and the dog bounces towards me and bites me on my upper arm (as I tried to get the bag between us).

I've been left with bad bruises but no puncture (only because of my coat). I immediately report this and details are taken by the line manager. He eventually enquires if I'm ok to carry on. I agree to finnish the round (baring in mind this happened only minutes earlier). I get through one 20min bag and become upset and in pain as my arm swells and rubs against the coat/bag/stuff.
I ring the office again to leave my duty because of the event. The line manger says there is no one in the office to take over and it would be hard to find someone although he does suggest if after another bag I felt the same he would do the round. I accepted this and carried on with the round. I now feel I really shouldn't have. I felt oddly guilty to say no I'm not carrying on but now I'm left in a state of upset and pain.

I'm going in tomorrow for a chat and to file the specific report. I will be reporting the dog as I become more worried about the potential of children being attacked.

Report it to the dog warden and get the union to start legal proceedings against the owner (get the dog put down

)

The Bullmastiff is a powerful dog, said to be a cross between the English Mastiff and the Old English Bulldog. Originally bred to find and immobilise poachers, the breed has proved its value as a family pet.

Bad trainers/owners, it should be them who are put down not the dogs

Avoiding Dog Attacks
Never attempt a delivery if menaced or intimidated by a dog or where a dog is loose. Never
accept an ownerâ€™s assurance that a dog is safe or friendly. Never put your fingers through
a letterbox.

Report all incidents and hostile, hazardous dogs to management in order for it to be dealt with under the Royal Mail Dog Attacks Procedure and reported to the Local Authority Dog Warden and Police in cases of injury.

Speaking from experience...... take photos of your injury asap and then report the dogs to the police. then fill out the form with the royal mail. Take it as far as you want. I got Â£1500 compo for dog attacks several years ago now.
