Delivering at hottest time of day

I read some posts about sunscreen because of the later starts plus the added delivery during the so called quiet period. What I would like to know is if there is a certain time you are allowed to walk in the hottest part of the day. Yes I know you can take precautions like sunscreen, sunglasses & hats to minimise the damage but when it is 5 days a week plodding around with a heavy bag under the sun, surely there must be a maximum time. There must be some law out there somewhere to protect our health.

The only law I can think of is the one that says you are only contracted until your finishing time (for most offices approx 14:15), after that it's someone else's problem. Health first - job last in this case. I very much doubt that any sane manager would argue with the danger of being sued for enforced heatstroke but then again, we don't employ many sane managers

I'm almost sure there is some EU regulation about working outdoors in the sun (something to do with farmers getting an exemption), maybe Teebs could dig it up (if it exists and not a figment of my imagination )

Yes maybe we could go with a siesta for when summer scheduling comes in we will need it or maybe it's a spanish practice too far for some :cfo !.

Unfortunately I think RM will expect us all to work in the hottest part of the day UNTIL one or two of us faint, or go sick with heat exhaustion. Why oh Why can't they just take a sensible approach and bring back earlier starts???

In our office there are full time staff who have to take out an extra third of a round as their duty. Wuich means on the heaver days they are out walking for upto 5 hours in the hottest part of the day. There should be some sort of law about this!!!!!!!

Tell me, why are staff walking the streets for 5 hrs, ur only suppose to be doing 3.5 hrs of delivery.
It seems to me that ur delivery times needs to be sorted out. talk to ur Area H&S and I.R. rep about this as it needs some attention i would say

Don't look like the EU is going to protect us on this issue then.
Can't see y Royal Mail cannot supply us with suncream and sunglasses, do believe that our colleagues in BT do get these.
Hear from some quarters of Managment, that they will not issue suncream, as they fear of allergic reactions and a claim made against them.
But surely all they have to do, is to individualy risk assess everyone, to decide if we are suitable or not to have suncream.

YES there is 'APPENDIX 3' why are they out for 5hrs when it clearly states 3 1/2

There are about twelve full timers in our office who have to take a full round, and they have to sort and take out another round between 3 of them to make their hours up to full time as they dont go onto the IPS sorting. This has been going on for about 2 years now.

There lies the answer. If enough people go sick on the grounds of heat problems rm would be forced to do something but in reality how many will?

Why did they agree to it? You can't legislate for someone using poor judgement.
