Van accident

Post by Rage24 »

Today at work someone hit the back of our van, (I initially thought my colleague had just put the break on too hard) but he made me aware someone went into the back of us, we parked up with the bloke who hit us and there was nothing on the front of his van, and nothing wrong with our van, so we just left it and didn't inform the managers, the problem is I'm getting a little bit of back pain now (nothing too bad but seems to be getting a little worse) I'm worried now about my back getting worse and I didn't mention the van to anyone at work.

What should I do?

Ask for a prescription of Narproxin at the chemist.

Shame you didn't exchange any details.

Ask a CWU rep if your in the Union.

ALWAYS report it, you never know what the 3rd party will do later, then you can be sacked for not reporting it (gross misconduct), Also the driver of your van should tell his own personal insurance company.

It’s up to your partner to report it as he’s the driver. As was just said if the other driver had 2nd thoughts and told Royal Mail you drove into the back of him that could lead to both of you being sacked for keeping quite. Not to mention if you had future back problems because of the bump.

Management are going to LOVE this :Very Happy :Very Happy :Very Happy

So, you didn't even know that someone had gone into the back of the van you were actually travelling in until your partner told you?

It really could not have been that much of a shunt then, as by your own admission, neither vehicle suffered any damage. Even minor shunts crack plastic bumpers/scratch paint etc.

So trivial was it that no details were exchanged, you allowed the guilty party to drive off and leave the scene, and it was not even considered worthy to be reported to RM management - by either the driver or you?

But so bad is it now that you are suffering back pain, and worries that this back pain is going to get worse.... :hmmmm :hmmmm

Me thinks (and no doubt management will as well given the facts) that you are suddenly eyeing up the prospect of £ signs, I personally would think very carefully before pushing this, given how both you and the driver have completely violated company rules when it comes to the RTA reporting procedure.

What if the guilty party suddenly starts getting pain as well and comes back saying that your partner braked very suddenly for reasons unknown and he could not avoid the collision?

Your partner may not only be suspended from driving but suspended full stop while those in the ivory towers get their teeth into this, and given current management ethos both you and your partner could well be facing the sack.

As above I’d say nothing and if it comes back just say you assumed the drivers swapped details while you ate your lunch

Or, you know, he could be worried about taking time off in the circumstances and is asking for thoughts on a postal workers forum.

Unfortunately, he comes across an ex-employee with nothing better to do than act like a tool.

I'm afraid you are the tool, simply infantile name calling without any advice, always someone else's problem. He has asked for thoughts, given an account of what happened, and based on that account I have given my thoughts.

The "collision" was light enough for him to not even realise that the van he was actually a passenger in had been hit, not a scratch of damage done, no details exchanged, allows guilty party to drive off, doesn't report the incident to management as not considered enough to report, but suddenly it's that bad that a back injury has started and may get worse.......

As I said, given the current mentality of RM management, what would you deduce?

As for ex-employee, I have close family and friends still in the job and going through absolute hell due to the very same management making their jobs awful along with morale non existent and I genuinely care about them.

Tools like you are the ones I am glad to be away from, fortunately a small minority.

If he chose not to report the accident ( which it was ) then if his back plays up in future and he has to go on long term sick or even retire he has no come back.

I'm sure how the OP could connect the back pain with the erm, ahem 'accident '

Nothing. Phone in sick if you need to, but ultimately you're gonna throw your mate under the bus reporting it now. It's probably just coincidence anyway, as a fail to see how an accident that was so light that you didn't even know it happened has caused you to have a bad back.

I've had this happen twice. Once somebody reversed into the side of me, and the other somebody drove into me in a car park. Both times there was no damage, but I told management anyway as my only concern was the other party might report it as my fault. I was basically told if there's no damage don't worry about it, but told them just to cover my arse.
