PART DAY ABSENCES

I was just wondering if anyone else has been in the position i was in last week,a manager came to see me with an rtu insisting that i had triggered it by taking a part day, only for a procedural mistake on there side they would have saked me.Can anyone tell me under which agreement can part days be used to give stages to people.

I believe RM sacked a postie in Reading on a RTU and the part day triggered it , it went to appeal but the next manager in the line counted the half day as full .CWU HQ were adamant that the appeals manager did not understand the procedure and the sacking should not have been upheld .

CWU HQ got him back after 2 months on the basis he wasn't really sacked but they had to make sure the case was absolutely watertight and RM knew it wouldn't stand up in Tribunal.

I'm of the firm belief that these so called procedural errors are quite deliberate as RM seem desperate to get these RTU's to stick and there's pressure from on high with these managers and certain managers are preoccupied with the chance of a opportunity to impress Area .

Part days can be used in rtu's, but you have to be taken in the office and be advised that part absences are becoming a concern and will count towards sick attendance.

This has been asked before the part day thing.
What seems to be the score is part days are usually discounted.
But if you like have 1 a month or take the piss they will do you for it.

But like everthing in RM it depends on the manager and if he/she got off with the missus/old man the night before.

Dunno if it's still the case, but an old-timer when I first started at RM told me that if you go home sick after you have completed more than half your duty hours, and return to work next day, the absence is noted on your record but not counted as a sick day ???

I think this has changed now, I think you have to cover at least half of your shift. Last year I went sick about an hour after my shift started and it was counted as an abscence

Cheers for all the replys I do believe royal mail are misusing the attendance procedure to suit themselves,after reading through the agreement I find no mention of part days can be used to trigger stages they seem to have added it and nobody has questioned it fully I think the union need to look at this seriously as people will lose there livelyhoods over having to go home for whatever problem arises.
