Seniority Ignored during re-pick. I have lost my walk to a part timer with less seniority!
Hi. My understanding is during a re-sign of duties it has always been done on seniority from top to bottom? This has not been the case during our revision. First 30 or so on the list got to pick what they wanted but the rest of us have been split up into 2 groups, part time and full time. When I came to pick I was told I couldn’t pick one of the remaining walks available and that I had to either pick a group which consists of replen and hybrid dutites or go back to floating after 12 years service. Yet, a part time member of staff with less seniority can go ahead and pick a remaining walk over myself. There are currently around 10 walks still available but only part time staff with less years service can pick them over full time members of staff. This is totally out of order and is causing a lot of toxicity within the office.
Is this a National thing or is it just our manager who has decided to do the re-pick like this, which doesn’t make sense to none of us.
Any help would be much appreciated

Same is planned in our office. Just waiting for the resign to start but basically when each section only has a few few walks left they will be reserved for part timers and as you say full timers with more seniority will be unable to sign for them. It's bullshit but management want to make sure they have some full time reserves. So it's happy days for part timers and tough s**t for full timers unfortunately!
What I'd like to know is if a part timer get's made up to full time whilst on one of these duties some time in the future. Will they then have to give it up to another part timer? Because in order to maintain the ratio of Pt/ft on walks in theory they should?

Same here, got my 20 year service award last year but can't get a duty because they made them part time, two blokes who started about a year ago get put on decent duties but I'm fkin reserve.

Yes this happened at ours. Some walks have been assigned as part time and if a full timer higher on the seniority list wanted one they’d have to switch to part time. They would probably make up the hours no problem most of the year with the size of the duties. A few full timers just settled for reserve to stay full time and other part timers who had duties before switched to reserve to get full time.

Re: Seniority Ignored during re-pick. I have lost my walk to a part timer with less seniority!
Yes I’m currently full time on 35-hours yet I can’t pick any of the 10 remaining walks available including my own walk which I’ve been on for over 2 years. Yet a part time member of staff with less seniority can go ahead and pick it. How is this right? I have been told I have to either pick from 1 of the 2 groups remaining, which include collections and PHG/Hybrid duties or go back to floating after 12 years service. Also, by choosing a group I have been told I would have to change my (rest week) to fall in line which I am not prepared to do as I’ve already made plans in advance for the next 6 months.
I have until Tuesday to make my decision and I really don’t know what to do for the best. I have made an official complaint to the CWU regarding this issue but I’m awaiting the outcome. Am I still better off picking a s**t group and trying to honour my rest weeks I need off or go back to being reserve and keep my rest week as it is and hope for the best???
A few months ago we were told that our contracts would be revised and I expressed my interest for my contract to go from 35-hours to 37-hours. After expressing my interest I later found out that other members of staff with less seniority than myself had their contract made up to 37-hours and were told they were ‘temporarily’. I have now found out that those ‘temporary’ contracts will be made permanent yet I am being blackmailed into picking a group if I want a 37-hour contract, otherwise will stay on 35- hour. Why should I be blackmailed whilst others with LESS seniority have had there contracts made up without these conditions attached???
I have taken it further with the CWU regarding the revision of duties and contracts but based on the agreement on pay deal I can’t say I have any faith or trust in them anymore to do anything about it

Our office so far is still sensible as in there are no ft or pt dutys the only difference is the indoor outdoor same length.

Cooldude1,
Is your present duty going to lose any hours due to revision and is less than you contracted hours?
If so, this maybe why it can not be chosen by yourself .
If not Don’t pick a walk without Union involvement it’s sounds like you have been had!

Lost my duty 7/8 years ago as it went part time, it dosnt really make sense unless RM are removing hours from the office. If the same amount of full timers and part timers remain what difference does it make whether a part time of full timer picks a duty, the indoor hrs of prep and IPS are still to doCooldude1 wrote: ↑28 Apr 2023, 20:57Hi. Re: Seniority Ignored during re-pick. I have lost my walk to a part timer with less seniority!
We have such a scheme for more than 8 year, if not more. Ever since P&L were introduced, the duties were streamed into FT, PT (including floating duties that are paired), Rurals, Firms, Standalones and other hybrids...
Yes, the indoor work should be the same - IPS or double prep but in reality, 2 full timers working together will have easier Mondays and Tuesdays especially if they both work or one of them work on IPS.
The idea is to make the full time staff prep for the part timer partner on 28 hours...
Having said the above, a lot has changed since then - 3 revisions a esp the latest taking walks out has resulted in a dilution of the system. We actually have some junior part timers on stand alone walks now because the FT attached duty has been removed. Displaced FTs now working with other FTs because some part timers have left and seniors losing walk have moved into their duties
No plans for a resign...
