UK Emergency Alert message - how it will affect you

On Sunday 23 April at 3pm an alert will be issued to smartphones (which may include PDAs) across the UK to test a new public warning system.
The UK Emergency Alert message will come as a siren-like sound, sent to all phones for about 10 seconds. This sound will be accompanied by a pop-up message alongside some key telephone numbers and links for more information (see the pic for what the message will look like.)

The sounds will still play even if your phone is on silent mode, and you’ll have to acknowledge that you’ve seen the alert before you can return to using your phone as usual.

We’re aware that colleagues could be driving around the time when the alert is issued. It’s important not to be distracted so please ensure if driving that the message is only cleared when you have parked and the ignition is turned off.

Please note that you may not get this alert if:
You are using 2G or 3G
Your phone is switched off
It’s on Airplane mode
Your device is not on Apple iOS 14.5/Android 11 or above

It is anticipated that our PDAs will not get this message as they use Android 10 operating software. However, please be aware that there is a chance that some Android 10 devices could still receive the alert.

There is nothing that can be done to stop the alert, so if it is received please follow the instructions given as your device will be inoperable until the alert has been acknowledged.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

This is wrong. You can switch it off - on your own smartphone at least.
This article provides at least one valid reason for doing so.

Where did that info come from?

It’s a little concerning to me that the forum admin is posting misinformation on government events.

You CAN stop the alert by turning it off in your phone settings .

It won’t affect me

Setting - Notifications - Turn off emergency alerts

Heard about it last month and switched emergency alerts off. For iPhone go to notifications and scroll to the bottom.

Read it again, it's mostly about Royal Mail PDA's.
It's from Workplace-all RMCtv features on here are from Workplace.

RMCtv-What is it and why the bad grammar sometimes?
