Anything over 4 would be more than enough for me (personally speaking). 3.5 suits me anyway.

With each new bag over our shoulder the maximum weight becomes less & less. If we were to walk around for another 30 minutes our bags would need to be damn near empty.

No, 3.5 hours is long enough. Just imagine delivering, on foot, for over 4 hours, in the middle of winter or summer with no toilets, no shelter and no van to sit in. Soaking wet either from rain or sweat. Anyway there was rightly, a huge fuss made when we went to 3.5 hours from 2.5 hours. I'm sure that it was decided that 3.5 hours would be the maximum length of delivery. Add in time to and from the delivery which can be anything from 10 minutes to an hour and the idea is a non-starter. I'm just turned 40 and very fit and active but 3.5 hours on delivery pushes me, any more and like many others I'll spend more time of sick due to bad back, joint problems or exhaustion. You have to take into account the physical wellbeing of the workers over the course of time. Remember we could be doing this for 20+ years. If RM were to implement this they would solve the pension problem as we'd be dropping like flies before we reached their 'pension age'. Oh and if you actually made it to 65, they'd change it to 70. Does anyone think they could do this job, with the 'decreasing' mail volumes, for 4.5 hours delivery a day every day?
No this suggestion is ludicrous, the implications have not been thought out and the wishes of the workers haven't been sought. I bet RM will have these in within a year.

i would only consider anything over 3.5 if we went to 4 days a week. i am pt and do 32 hrs over 5 days. if it were 32 over 4 i would do it.

3.5 hours is plenty for the body!!!!!if they wanna make it 4 hours it may be over a 4 day week as we will need the extra day off!!! some of us have other hobbies out of work we would like to maintain, me for example like running and swimming and i wanna still have the energy to persue my interests.

anybody wanting to do more than a 3.5 hour delivery needs their head checked, health and safety say this period is enough if royal mail get away with longer deliveries than this the job will be fu-ked up more than it is.

How would you like to do a 3.5+ hour duty when you are 60+ and maybe five year's after that till they :cfo & :lfo change the goal post's again!. least we forget summer time staffing and flexibility!.

i understand objections and would prefer no change ....however

Longer deliveries seem the only way for me to get extra hours. Stuck on 22.5 hours which is
not easy to live on

Not being funny ever since they bought in this 1 dilivery per day alot of us have been on deliverys that we are out of the office for just over the 4hrs 15min,we have been in many arguments about it in the office hence now we having even bigger arguments now,this morning they came out with new proposals as we have to loose 360hrs out of the office,thier idea is to get rid of all the reserve duties and get us to cover our days off,hence we have told them to go away i think nobody should be forced into covering for days off going back to 6 days aweek, the only thing they said was they would pay SA rate but if your due to cover a day off and you dont want to or cant then its down to you to get cover,so we have a catch 22 situation here at the moment.

That's what managers are paid to do not you just tell them to sort it out themselves because :cfo told us we were only to work our contracted hours.

Most rurals in my DO are around 5 1/2 hours now and only 3 have toilets on them and I tell you it can be quite uncomfortable to go for 6 hours (including traveling time) without a comfort break. Plus anyone who thinks that being in a van makes it easier is deluding themselves because all the van does is takes you from delivery point to delivery point, you're not able to stop for a rest nor do you have the time to sit and wait until the monsoon outside stops you just have to get on with it.

SA rate has been and will continue to be devalued to to point of a standard wage in the near future?.

Just keep saying no mate and they cant stick you with it. No one can be forced to work over their hours. If you sign up to SA then they can force you.

3.5 hr delivery is being broken every day by overtime walks so why are people ignoring the fact some people have been on delivery in excess of 4hrs for years. If management said a NET wage TAKEHOME £400 but 4 hr + delivery then his office door would be off it's hinges with the demand to sign up.

Anybody who says they'd like to be 4hrs on the plod, in all weathers, well.......They need their bumps reading.
