Annual leave URGENT!
I've booked 1 weeks annual leave for next week which I put in for in January and I have a print out confirming it.
We have a new manager in the office who is denying me the leave as his computer has 'no record' of it, he says.
He is adamant I can't have it and is expecting me into work. Where do I stand???

Re: Annual leave URGENT!
Not sure of the actual 'law' on this, but I THINK you have to be given notice of cancellation at least the length of time ahead.
So 1 weeks leave - 1 weeks notice, 2 weeks leave - 2 weeks notice etc. So the new gaffer is too late to cancel it as it's less than 1 week away.
RM would also have to re-imburse ALL expenses you've spent if they cancel any pre booked leave.
Get the Area rep onto it today as time is pressing.
Good luck.

Check your people app see what that says, but either way if you have proof it was authorised give him a copy and tell him you will see him when you get back

You have written evidence it was granted. The fact that the people app says something to the contrary doesn't invalidate the approval. I'd take the leave.

Re: Annual leave URGENT!
It may not be showing on the computer /app as weve just changed over from 2022 to 2023 leave year, had a similar issue at our office. I'll grant you these days it shouldn't be a problem but its royal mailmakingsounds wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 11:19I've booked 1 weeks annual leave for next week which I put in for in January and I have a print out confirming it.

As stated previously, If you have the print out annual leave card (evidence) and have not been informed in good time or given another up to date annual leave card then you are within your right to take that leave. I'd still get the area rep on it though just incase.

You are correct. A couple of years ago I had a manager in a foul mood tell me on the Friday he could cancel my annual leave the following week if he wanted to, I reminded him I’m fully aware my annual leave can be cancelled however I would require the same amount of notice, and that the deadline had passed therefore I’d see him the week after.ArthurPewty wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023, 11:56Not sure of the actual 'law' on this, but I THINK you have to be given notice of cancellation at least the length of time ahead.

Wasn't even aware they could cancel your annual leave to be honest. Surely annual leave is annual leave, we're not the blxxdy army or police?

Re: Annual leave URGENT!
It rarely happens in Royal Mail, but its written into UK law that they can cancel your leave, but then so is how much notice they have to give you.
In a way I suppose we are lucky as employers can, under the law, tell you when to take leave.

I am afraid under the law it doesn't matter.pieoftheday wrote: ↑12 Apr 2023, 09:47What happens if you've paid for a holiday?TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑12 Apr 2023, 09:35It rarely happens in Royal Mail, but its written into UK law that they can cancel your leave, but then so is how much notice they have to give you.

But in my opinion the employer must take that into account and if they only gave minimal notice of the cancellation they may leave themselves open to being sued.An employer can refuse a leave request or cancel leave but they must give as much notice as the amount of leave requested, plus 1 day. For example, an employer would give 11 days’ notice if the worker asked for 10 days’ leave.
This page from a lawyers website is a bit more detail but shows that its not as cut and tried as most people think. https://awhsolicitors.co.uk/articles/em ... cel-leave/
