Where we are!!
There is a lot of garbage mixed in with a little bit of sense being talked on this forum at the moment, the company trolls are out in force trying their best to do what they are paid to do, unsettle and unnerve the workforce. But if you really just stand back and have a look from a neutrals point what is going on. We want a pay rise, the company dont really want to give us one, but because they probably will have to in the end nows the chance to push through so many things and get rid of so many things that the workforce turn on the union, 2 birds with 1 stone. The union are caught between a rock and a hard place, can we call IA with local elections coming, not sure, do we want to with the current cost of living climate again not sure. The companies position is lets kill the union and the ageing workforce for as little money as possible, from where i am standing they are getting away with it, minimum vrs with crap money and people leaving in their droves many of them older posties. Unlike the other unions striking at the moment we (Although during the pandemic we were key workers apparently) dont have the public impact that the other ones do and RM know it. Its hard to have a discussion with somebody who quite openly lies to anyone who will listen, everything that is said you cant believe, even with a neutral in the room they just continue with no consequence at the moment. So where exactly are we, my thoughts are that we are yet again in a stalemate, RM want the latest incarnation of their original "Best and final" offer put to the vote, just in case it gets voted through, its amazing how many times a one off payment gets it over the line, i have no interest in the offer personally but thats just my view, i look at the whole offer and decide is it in my and my fellow posties interest and have decided no. Theres too much in this that the management will use to beat you with at the first chance they get, i am still baffled as to why they have such a hard on for later finishes, any of the reasons so far are just Bull. So we are in a s**t place with a s**t offer and some pretty shitty days ahead, be strong and think before you make any decisions on the offer in front of you its never ever what you think it is and more than likely a lot worse.

Exactly its the worst payrise in any sector and even worse than the final offer in november, its a big NO !!!! from me ,the union have to call a prolonged period of strike action and we have to back them or this time next year working foe Evri will look attractive.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 08:23There is a lot of garbage mixed in with a little bit of sense being talked on this forum at the moment, the company trolls are out in force trying their best to do what they are paid to do, unsettle and unnerve the workforce. Lets do the right thing support the UNION we are the UNION do the job right no cutting corners take breaks start on time finish on time and make managers manage make them earn their money for once and perhaps we will see them going sick with stress or even leaving the business, like we have seen many good postmen and women do in recent purely because they just had enough of this useless money grabbing CEO and board who careless about his so called TEAM

Re: Where we are!!
I'm of the opinion that their obsession with later starts is because of their other obsession with capturing the later acceptance of parcels, of course we currently do that with the lat's but the problem is RM's own making, it costs a fortune to pay out a fixed rate to the lat/Sunday staff, round here they get 6 hours fixed rate on Sunday and most do considerably less hours work, I think the weekday lats get 4 hours, again regardless of amount of parcels.
Why not just manage it properly for a change and maybe introduce split/hybrid type duties where you do say half a walk then lats, I'm sure that would be popular with folk who are struggling physically.

Where are we?...
We are awaiting the talks to conclude within the next week. Dave Ward suggested they'd be in talks this weekend....
Simple as that. Royal Mail may have said 'talks have concluded', but it sounds like they haven't.... so let's just wait a few more days....

Re: Where we are!!
The irony is that if the company actually proposed a lot less things and focussed on just one or two, then a deal would more likely to be reached and the workforce would be a lot happier.
RM believe that later start and finish times are a game changer as they want to change the entire parcel network and make it more efficient with dedicated parcel routes. As I've said many times....I believe the long term plan is to have the parcel super hubs sort the parcels rather than delivery offices thus saving on the indoor workload in each individual delivery office. Why do I believe this? Well, if you look at RM's proposals then they are after trials to reduce the amount of indoor prep work by 20-35 mins plus they want 30 mins flex on top of the later start times of 60-90 minutes. Everything has been pushed back later because the company believe that they will make huge savings on improving indoor workload efficiency. As a consequence parcels will arrive later but they will be pre-sorted. Now before anyone jumps in and says it won't work - it is just my understanding of it all!

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I think RM's idea is that instead of having separate duties the LAT stuff gets processed in MCs along with everything else and gets delivered by DOs with everything else, rather than having separate duties in DOsted_e_bear wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 09:21I'm of the opinion that their obsession with later starts is because of their other obsession with capturing the later acceptance of parcels, of course we currently do that with the lat's but the problem is RM's own making, it costs a fortune to pay out a fixed rate to the lat/Sunday staff, round here they get 6 hours fixed rate on Sunday and most do considerably less hours work, I think the weekday lats get 4 hours, again regardless of amount of parcels.

Re: Where we are!!
That's what I thought and it makes sense or it would if we didn't deliver mail, however as per comments on here regarding later starts especially up to 3 hours later there's a massive issue with walking duties delivering in the dark for hours in winter.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 09:44I think RM's idea is that instead of having separate duties the LAT stuff gets processed in MCs along with everything else and gets delivered by DOs with everything else, rather than having separate duties in DOsted_e_bear wrote: ↑09 Apr 2023, 09:21I'm of the opinion that their obsession with later starts is because of their other obsession with capturing the later acceptance of parcels, of course we currently do that with the lat's but the problem is RM's own making, it costs a fortune to pay out a fixed rate to the lat/Sunday staff, round here they get 6 hours fixed rate on Sunday and most do considerably less hours work, I think the weekday lats get 4 hours, again regardless of amount of parcels.

Do you really think they are all sat around a table on Bank holidays ? This lot?
At best Ward or Fury might fire off a couple of unanswered emails.
