Hgv driver training contract

Just been offered a class 1 job outside of royal mail, but royal mail paid for my class 2 training which I passed October 2022 but will be required to Pay back the training fees if leave before 2years have passed, I really don't want to pay this as ive applied for 3 mgv jobs within Royal Mail through successfactors but didn't even get an interview which I view as a breach in contract as I was Informed I'd be given a job within an hours driving time of my address, just wondering if anyone has left while still being under a contract? I mean I'll offer to pay £1 a week back if they want there money

No idea on this but a guy at ours took his training, worked on the wagons for about 2 months then took VR and got a class 1 job with someone else, heard he never payed anything back!

I knew this would all come crashing down at the expense of regular posties.

I applied for the training but after months of getting dicked about by RM I paid for it myself and I'm glad I did.

It meant that I could leave and not have to worry about them dicking around again.

Passed my Class 1 in december.

Asked around at all the nearby regional depots. They took weeks to get back to me to eventually be told "you'll just need to look on success factors to see if anything comes up."

Whuch, you guessed it, never did.

So, I left RM to drive Class 2 with a different delivery company and I'm now on 31k a year, and never have to work weekends ever again.

Two weeks in, I bumped into a mate who still works at the sorting office who said "union rep reckons he would have found you a position if you asked him".

Not bloody likely


Don't look back. Truckers are in high demand at the moment and regardless of what RM throw at you in terms of breach of contract, plenty of other firms will pay you enough that you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah I paid for my own class 1 passed in January, but been offered a job transporting cars for jaguar land-rover,money is way to good to turn down and also having a decent job and not being knackered all the time, but will be pissed if I have to pay back anything to Royal Mail for class 2 training when I was promised a job mgv driving if I passed, i applied for 3 vacancys and didn't get 1 interview so I think it's a breach of contract personally and if they get arsey I'm seeking legal advice on the situation as I was forecast to pay 4k back when I last enquired

Yeah, its shitty. If they can also breach their own contract you shouldn't be punished also. f**k them.

If you’ve been offered a job somewhere else just take it, but I wouldn’t waste my money seeking legal advice which will tell you that you’re liable to repay a percentage back within the first two years of the training.

Problem is though I've applied for 3 positions that have come up and not had an interview for any of them, if they don't intend on using people you've trained to do the job what is the point, also there is loads of agency jobs driving the mgv but when I queried why couldn't I have an agency position they told me because there more reliable and not on strike all the time, so its abit of a joke tbh

Glad it's not just me in this position. I passed my class 2 through RM last September not had a sniff at driving even though I kept enquiring but eventually gave up asking condescending managers.
My thoughts are at least I've got the license now.
Still Crap and frustrating when all I see are agency getting the work I was trained to do.

Really been keen on the class 2, not too much on the class 1.
Someone I know left RM a few yes back and does class 2, he never works weekends and he's on over 35k and he's home before teatime

Class 2 is more multidrop work, class 1 is basically just driving to one place and back,depends what you like I prefer the driving plus all the money is in class 1 driving, problem is now is there is a ton of drivers as the government claimed there is a shortage, so for every job there is 200 plus applying, the job I've landed had 300 plus applied for it
