We need change?
With the ongoing EA and the inability of anyone being able to stop it i was wondering if nows the time to change. Now before you all get to excited, no its not the Slyman version, i mean our mindset needs to change. As much for our own health as anyone else's, its obvious that RMs version of the way we work and go forward is pretty much unworkable for most of us, rather than everyone getting stressed and upset its perhaps better for all concerned to just look after themselves, if you want to come in early, feel free to, if you want to run around, knock yourself out, but if you want to come in on time and do the job at a reasonable pace without killing yourself that should be allowed too. No repercussions from management or your fellow worker's. If you want to work o/t i can't see a issue, if you just want to work to your time you should be able to again without repercussions. Some fellow workers (Early starters and runners) like to complain if the cover man hasn't completed the duty on their rest day, this needs to end, change the way you think before you kill this job for any sensible human being, managers just think more can go on it and will just load it up until the runners cant complete. Its hard for people in this company a long time as we have always had a pride in our work and completing and delivering everything everyday was part of the pride, i am afraid this bunch could care less about that but are quite happy for it to continue that way with no consequence for them. The moral high ground doesn't always win a fight but it allows the little people to feel better within themselves which can only be good.

Re: We need change?
No it doesn't. If you are a very hard worker, you end up doing the work of whoever was on the duty the day before on top of your own work. This is more wear and tear, plus more organisational work on the more productive worker for no reward. There is every reason to complain about this situation.scotchy1962 wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 08:26Some fellow workers (Early starters and runners) like to complain if the cover man hasn't completed the duty on their rest day, this needs to end,

That's bollox, I've worked hard for 35 years, my joints now hurt and I need medication to get through the day, I do my best but I cant do things like I used to. You dont have to do the previous days work if you dont have the time eithernuisance wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 11:06No it doesn't. Re: We need change?
Sorry to say it but if they cant complete in their time then its too bad. if you want to work over thats up to you, but the revisions are designed to take you over your time so completion is not the covers fault. Complain to your manager that its to big and tell me what the reply is.nuisance wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 11:06No it doesn't. Re: We need change?
Yes you do. You now have to have an argument why you might struggle to complete or be willing to work over because of how much the previous day's worker did or didn't do. Anyone who was willing and able to get their own work done now has to explain why they can't or won't do their work and somebody else's on top. That is the situation and it sucks for anyone who isn't adopting "quiet quitting" i.e. dumping onto whoever is on the duty the next day.pieoftheday wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 15:16That's bollox, I've worked hard for 35 years, my joints now hurt and I need medication to get through the day, I do my best but I cant do things like I used to. Yes you do? Are you for real, if somebody wants to work their contracted hours then thats what they are entitled to do, you or anybody else doesnt have a god given right to tell them otherwise, i think you will find the problem lies in your attitude. If you want to run yourself into the ground feel free the rest of us have no interest. RMs problem not ours get used to it.nuisance wrote: ↑01 Apr 2023, 15:48Yes you do. Re: We need change?
My problem is with the people who don't complete out of some sort of spite for management. If you leave work for me because you did the job properly and ran out of time that's fine, if you have a reputation for taking your breaks then going to the toilet for 20 minutes before you go out every day, and proudly say things like "the less organisation I do in the DO, the longer I can take between loops"... That is annoying (and my annoyance definitely contributes to other posties dislike of me)

Re: We need change?
The change will happen from within because of the contempt of those above us and the rewards they receive by our hard work and now unrewarded and imposed revisions. I will not go the extra mile or one inch over my time and do the job to the book if they don't like it they can do the rest of it I work hard enough not doing anymore!

We all have a start time and finish time and a meal relife/break.
We Do not need Commit to deliver in any of it's forms or machinations of it forms.
We need a deal but not at cost to us all.
We need to stand against the dictators at the top of Royal Mail with all the force we have.

Re: We need change?
After all the revisions are implemented, the rounds are too big and cannot be completed on time. Failing the uso is RM fault/problem and theirs to sort out,. You do not have to break your neck and complete two days work - if your Dom can't see that, then tough, they've tried to toughen up and threaten (to save their own skins) us posties, just ignore that. Come in early, work for nothing, rush around and don't claim ot - exactly what RM want to happen. Despite the anger towards top brass, we are our own worst enemies sometimes.

Re: We need change?
The managers will sometimes not understand what can be achieved in a set time span. But sometimes they do realise it is unachievable but urge you to go faster/do more or even demean you by inferring you are slow/lazy/dis-organised.
As others have said:
1/ Advise your manager as early during prep as possible that in your opinion you can't get it all done
a/ if they agree with you then come to an agreement about what gets left behind
b/ if they disagree with you then just listen to there words.
State that you disagree what is possible as you know the round and what you are capable of.
They'll insist that they are right and you are wrong or some variation.
Ask them if they want you to clear the frame. They'll say yes.
Tell them that you are not working any overtime. That you fully expect to be bringing some loops back. Make sure you do this with your colleague at your side.
Now imagine how this conversation would pan out if we are subject to work to finish. That is why work to finish can never be allowed to be introduced. Ever.
