Sent to another office

Hi gang!
Been a postman for 11 years now 2011 contract. However, another office is struggling and they want to send me and then a different person every week for the next six months, is that a thing is that allowed?

Yes it is i'm afraid if it is within a reasonable travel distance, but ensure you insist on starting at your own delivery office each morning at your correct start time.
They have to supply a vehicle to get you to the other office and you have to have time to travel back to your parent office intime for your official finish time.

As has been said before, dont let them rail road you into using your own vehicle

To add to the above most people's insurance policies only cover them for travel to a single place of work. You need to have business insurance to travel to multiple sites and also ensure that you stick to the milage you set. Of course, these policies cost more and RM won't pay the difference.

I’d also add make sure everyone has their turn, otherwise it’s discrimination

Yes hundred percent, why I opted to go first. At least with that I can see who else goes and then put up the fight if I get sent again and others haven’t been.

7 offices over 120 rounds. Often don't know when and where until the morning. Mentally and physically drained.

Yup, enjoy a nice relaxing drive, being sent to another office is a gift we should all embrace! With all the travel time it should take at least an hour of your day.

Used to love getting sent to other offices. They don’t send me anymore. Start at your office on your time, let them provide transport to other office. Get lost a lot as it’s a total random area and make sure they transport you back allowing for traffic so you are back at your own office in plenty of time.

When did contracts change to allow managers to send posties to other offices? And as a follow-on, can posties be forced to move permanently even on, say, recent contracts of a couple of years ago? Definite answers would be immensely helpful please, as wouldn’t want to rock the boat in error! Don’t suppose examples of contracts are available online? Getting very stressed with the situation, but i guess it’s the new normal …

Don't use your own transport get them to take you and deliver you back on or before your finish time if you go over get it paid or if the refuse do not go next time. Citing your last experience and if they force you put a grievance in as you did everything but were abandoned by the in actions of management!

I think there were some contracts a few years ago that had people as an "area reserve" or similar which means you would have to go to other offices and with your own transport - like a cover manager has to do.

But if you don't have that on your contract then do as k979aaa says. It would be down to what is in your contract.
