I used to be the rep in our office a few years ago, done it for 3 years then had enough,weve not had an official one since so i just put any info that comes down on the boards and attend any branch meetings just to find out whats going on.If anybody needs help our area rep or one of the other boys come down and looks after things.Thinking about giving it another go

Now this is the state WE are in!!! " WHO IS THE REP " Full stop and what do they do, in the bigger picture????? All good men AND women, BUT when you see EX Union Reps making a career move with the Goverment and a fine job as well!!! It goes to show you the "jobs for the boys" is alive and kicking in our wonderful C.W.U. Sorry but when you get a C.W.U. Area Rep walk out of MY Appeal of a Harresment and bullying case i had against Management in my office and was found down the pub while i had too get a Rep from another source I think ALL of you too would be bitter and sad AND mainly upset!!!!!! Equality??? Well I quote George Orwell.. "SOME ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS!!!
Needless to say i lost my Appeal.. AND ROYAL MAIL in there wisdom found to then put me under the Code of conduct, BUY and i Quote, "Making claims in bad faith." ???? I never got a answer what "Bad faith " ment, after 9 months of waiting for a Answer!!! Just UR GUILTY!!!

I know people with out the facts on this site cant give an opinon on my case But Royal mail seem to do this on Numerous occations And have,, Seem familer??? Rail road as THEY see fit!!! SO AGAIN "WHO IS A UNION REP?" GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!!!

Ok,1st of all welcome mate,now you're obviously angry because of what's happened to you.
Reps seem to be at times put into the same bracket as Management,in that there are good ones and bad ones.
In my experience,10 yrs,i would have to say the bad Management outweigh big time the bad union rep.
I've worked with about 4 reps and had dealings with one area rep for an RTU and can honestly say they were all diamonds.
There are bad reps out there looking for an easy life or to stitch the office up to get the easy job.
Maybe you've just been unlucky,though you mention your area rep,what's your office one like?

Thanks for your welcome on this site, I was surprised to get a reply!! I ans: your Q: The person who was (now resigned not thru my case may i add) A Shift REP. On this day and leading up to my RTU WAS my AREA REP COVER, & OFFICE REP COVER, & SHIFT REP! My ROW went all the way to stage 3 and to someone Now on the excective(name withheld for legal reasons) The Management I agree outweight the DIRTY TRICKS and down right lies 100/1. Without doubt!! I was discusted with the advice i recieved from Headquarters.. (Ur case wont hold water coz Im WHITE, MALE, STRAIGHT, AND NOT DISABLED, Now OLD as well as the law about discrimenation states!! They CWU wouldnt take my case on. Now i was told that last comment as it (put me in the picture) but was told that the person wouldnt be held to that statement, Hence No names.. SHAME!!
I may sound like i want the CWU burnt @ the stake? I am a former frontline manager. 18 months after I moved out of the role a postman took out a bullying & harassment case against the office and I was implicated.
I cannot go into specific details as that goes against rules and my ethics.
I was interviewed for 5 hours by a bullying & harassment investigator about specific events 18 months previous.
I was not found guilty of any wrong-doing.
I fully support people being brought to book for wrong-doing, but surely 18 months down the line is a bit long

im a former fronline manager myself and all i can say is that sucks have you upset this person lately or had the case been running all this time and then you were brought in because you had witnessed the events
the rules seem very wide for this kind of event on this forum alone there are several examples of people trying to get a case going and either being ignored or totally ripped off
tbt be aware hows your case going
you have my sympathy for the gap in time if, i had been aware of this kind of thing i would have kept a works diary to remind myself of all the details later on in fact i would advise anyone on either side of the devide if they are having any problems at all to keep a diary, the union provides them, and keep a record of who said what about who,who else was there and how you felt at the time

I hadn't come across the individual since leaving the office. My understanding from talking to someone else (a mail centre manager) was that he had got himself into debt and was trying to find a way of making RM pay him off. I can't prove that so it is only rumour.
My main gripe with the whole thing is that you cannot reward high performing employees and the low performing one's seem to get away with poor performance. As a manager it takes almost 12 months adherring to the process to remove a poor performing postman.
There is too much protection of poor managers as well, they just get moved around and they are like a union themselves, though I think it is getting harder to hide.
