IHR with pension

Post by Spacemonky »

I was medically retired with pension nearly 3 years ago now and at the bottom of the unum payment it says something about the 3 year payment. I have not been able to work since and don’t know if I ever will, so was wondering do unum get in contact with me or do ohs and when, to discuss if I qualify for that last payment?
Hope someone can help..

How do you get IHR with pension? Do you need to be near pension age? Do you need to be deemed by OH Assist as never being able to work in any capacity for any employer ever again? And what if you got IHR with pension if you in a year or so suitable part time job elsewhere?

I am pretty sure IHR with pension is no longer an option since the unum came in fairly recently.

So would it be possible to still claim this unum, or has that also been done away with now? I have an appointment with OH next week, probably getting put forward for IHR

Atos can only answer questions put to them, so unless your manager asks if ihr with pension is an option then atos wont put it down as an answer. Age doesn’t matter as I was 45 at the time and had 24 years service. The pension had to be enhanced up to full pensionable age as well for both 60 and 65 respectively. As for the length of time for work they look at it as not being able to work for the next 9 years, well that’s what I was lead to believe (not 100% sure though).

I would check all this if I were you. I don't think this is IHR with pension. It's just a different way of giving you a Ihr payment. You'll notice on the paperwork that both options cost the company about the same. I also think your pension will have been deferred as soon as you stopped paying into it. I've never heard of any 9 year rule either. I left in 2020 when I was 62. Took the lump because my savings would have affected any benefits. Ny NRA65 was started without reduction as I won't work again.

That is the unum part. The pension is completely separate.

So does nobody know anyone who’s gone through the 3 year process and knows what happens at the end of the 3 years!…
