Just wondered what my options are.i have been a postie for 26 years but i have been off work for 4 months with ongoing issues with my back and dont feel like i can continue working in this job due to its nature.

As said above . Then you should get a oh practitioner call you go over everything also add in anxiety stress, then on final question ask to speak to a oh dr for review of you conditions.
Contact your Dr telling them about you applying for ihr and that the oh optima health dr will contact them.for information regarding your illness and how it impacts you and whether it's advisable for you to be at work etc.
The quicker this is done the better.

Don’t do anything too hasty. Like You I have back issues but had words with My DOM and He has been very good. No heavy lifting , a decent van where My arse isn’t lower than My knees. I was ready to Jack the job in over 12 years ago and I’m glad I didn’t. Obviously I don’t know Your issues but hopefully with some adjustments You May be OK.

If you have had your oh dr referral they will put it to your doms 3 questions and answer them on the grounds of whether you are able to work , or work doing your duty or other for company at present.
If they say no they will decide to ihr you with lump sum on grounds you may be able to work in the future.
Or ih you with pensionable lumpsum due to complete ill health and never work again.

If you get 1st lumpsum work later you'll get your 34 and pilion with option 1 or 2

Think if oh recommend ihr your dom has no say in the matter.

If occupational health says you cant do your job in RM and there no other jobs in RM for you and IHR is offered, you can do whatever you like once you have left RM

But you will have received your pay off an left rm so you can do whatever you like. it is not a benefit it just mean's rm cannot find any work suitable for you so no other option than ihr. Good luck in getting a new job if your able.
