Royal mail are already doing it: this is what is going on in my hellhole:
Walks increased in size, any Extra (what we all know as absorbtion /lapsing) is being renamed (no longer absorbtion/lapsing)...
Management have actually said, to my face and multiple other people.... We are looking for a new name.
So you may ask, who cares what it is called? A little odd methinks, call a bag a bag or call it a pouch who gives a cr*p.... right?
Well, this is quite devious, and a round about way to get around the Uso.
We will be taking out this new (absorbtion) But if we cant complete we HAVE TO TO DO IT THE NEXT DAY and possibly bring back some of your own duty regardless, whereas theoretically you could refuse and bring it back every day if you are out of time (IF IT WAS STILL CALLED ABSORBTION/LAPSING)
So in other words an "every other day service"
Now, if it is called absorbtion/lapsing its covered by our agreements ie :If you dont have time you can refuse to do it.
BUT, if it is renamed to something else, then its no longer absorbtion/ lapsing. Therefore no longer covered by our agreeements.
Just do it every other day, but its not official, so no paper work, less chance of leaks to OFCOM.
Conspiracy theory you may shout, OK, but why do they have to Change the name of absorbtion/lapsing? , purely to get around our agreeements with Royal mail imo.

We have to do our lapsing each day, no matter what. If we can't complete we have to leave some of our own duty, the lapsing MUST go each day!

Pretty much exactly what’s going on in ours. 2-3 duties are to be demolished next week. The loops that are on said duties spread around the office. On duties already far too big. It’s disgraceful.
They will say “leave your own walk” to accommodate this extra lapsing. Then just take what you left today, and alternate it.
What kind of service is this, Royal Mail? Do they think people and staff don’t know what’s going on. I don’t see how their grand plan has any legs anyway to be honest. I think in their world they think nobody knows it’s going on.

We’ve got a guy who will snap up a few bags of lapsing on overtime if there’s any left in but if you handed a couple bags back off your duty he wouldn’t touch it. Makes sense to offer up the lapsing as overtime if it can’t be done but not much makes sense at Royal Mail.

It is called ‘managing failures’! I remember back in the day if you didn’t deliver a letter it was called wilful delay. This company gives zero fugs about customer service now.

I work at one of the big south London DOs. I’ve never done lapsing in any shape or form. It was removed from our office about 4 years ago.
