Agency workers

After rm said they was not having agency workers from this week, we had 4 in today with one telling me the manager said he was needed for the foreseeable future. So are rm lying again . Has anyone else had agency workers in today ? .

We had agency in, management said they'll be gone by the start of next week.

Surely the RM owned agency Angard would have to at least let their staff, some of whom have been helping out for years, know they no longer have a job?

That many knowledgeable postmen have left our office it would collapse even further if we didn’t have agency.

Royal Mail contracted Christmas Casuals are ASKED if they would like transfer to ANGARD.

RM actually said the Agency staff covering the strikes... I don't think the CWU is after Angard staff? Are they?

A company with fluctuating work load will always need and use agency staff. Coupled with the fact that, ghost overtiming is actually more expensive and not a level playing field, agency workers are the next best thing.

I have worked with so many and I was once an agency staff myself - live and let live!

Statement from the CWU with the recent proposed settlement agreement

Royal Mail must commit to prioritising the removal of all agency staff before voluntary redundancies take place and confirm they will not hire new entrants across the business to replace existing workers who decide to take voluntary redundancy.

So the real reason behind the taciturn approach the CWU has taken toward supporting those CWU members who work for Angard (A wholly owned RMG Company) becomes apparent.

They want RMG to commit to effectively depriving Angard staff of their employment and the means of earning a wage. Many Angard staff have worked in RM depots longer than direct hire RM staff, years most times Angard staff have in the main supported the IA and refused to cross picket lines much to their financial detriment in order to support their colleagues and friends yet here we have a Union blatantly stabbing fellow workers in the back.

I repeat fellow communication workers and CWU members who have supported the IA. An utterly shameful move from the CWU leadership is a thing that they consistently blame ST for doing. Utter Hypocrites.

Angard staff are now aware of the contempt that the CWU leadership has for them. Do not be surprised if many highly experienced Angard staff cross the picket line . Remember, these Angard staff are multi-skilled and can cover every aspect of the operation. Combine these skilled staff with the recent huge influx of 'seasonal staff', who probably will cross picket lines, then the planned effect of the IA may be decimated.

Also good luck with trying to convince pickets to talk their Angard colleagues out of crossing picket lines. I am sure the rank-and-file members will see how much of a hypocritical act this would be, especially as Dave Ward is on record advising workers working for the likes of Amazon to join a union. Why should they, Mr Ward? you'll just pocket their fees then stab them in the back.

So the CWU now want to remove all agency staff - sigh! Why now? Is it protect overtime or just want to hamstring Royal Mail after the failed strikes.

RM is just playing along for now because they know the CWU has lost its fang and gradually becoming toothless.

They even agree to CWU having another ballot while intensive talks are going...

Facing saving time?

As part of this the company and the union have committed to the following:

• RMG has agreed to immediately remove the agency staff used to cover the Christmas peak and strike action.
• RMG has accepted that the CWU will engage members in our campaign to win a re-ballot, while negotiations continue
• RMG has reinstated the industrial relations framework for all revision activity. This is a significant development which gives us the ability to negotiate at local level, rather than managerial imposition of change. However, there remains a major issue over the national guidelines for these revisions and this will be discussed as the first item in our talks on Monday.
• RMG has committed to reviewing all cases put forward by the CWU that have arisen from the dispute relating to suspensions, conduct charges and dismissals. The CWU has made clear that we will never accept these unfair attacks on our members and representatives and a resolution to this must be found over the next couple of weeks.
• The CWU has agreed not to take any strike action during the 9th and 20th of January.


Like I thought, RM agreed to remove agency used to cover strikes, and Christmas peaks (they are not needed anyway as volumes has ebbed badly).
