Its not just donations that goes to the Labour party and its about time some political education took place so as a informed debate can take place.
Affilation is were some money money goes, affilation gives CWU membership of the Labour party and therefore a say in policy similar to individual members of the labour party.
Some politcal levy money goes on political campaiging, some on training for politcal officers, some on expenses connected with politcal activity.
If i attend a regional politcal committee meeting then my release comes out of the politcal fund, my train fare comes out of the political fund.
Money for Labour accounts for less than half of the 10 pence a week we pay for the political levy which has always been optional but not made widely known to the membership.
Split the political fund into 2 funds one for general political activties and the other to be a Labour Link fund.
Then ALL members should recive a form asking them if they want to pay into either of the two funds or just pay their standard membership dues evrey week/month .
So simple it should have been done years ago.

Re: POLITICAL DONATIONS
Why should you be bothered? You made it clear in other posts that you are not a Union member. For those members that want to stop paying their political fund, all they need to do, is contact their branch and ask for a form. Searching these forums they can also find a form to download and use. BTW, I don't pay into the political fund.cantypeANDSHOUTS wrote:as we all now being a union member doesnt mean you support the labour party, and finally you can opt out of donations..but how are you going to stop the cwu's leadership sprouting off their own clearly political views in their newsletters and web site....having just browsed it i was stunned just HOW MUCH of their own narrow minded political views are sprouted on most pages..
how can you stop paying for this....you pay them for a service...but seem to be servicing there own ends

Would you pay into a political fund that didnt donate money to Labour or spend money on affilating to the labour party?

Re: POLITICAL DONATIONS
I don't see the point of paying into or supporting any political fund that is not going to benefit me or my views.Big Daz wrote:FlukeFluke wrote:Why should you be bothered? Re: POLITICAL DONATIONS
If he's not a union member, he should sod off out of it and leave the debate to the people who matter. Anyone who isn't a union member isn't worth crap.Fluke wrote:Why should you be bothered? What does a "political officer" do exactly?Big Daz wrote:Its not just donations that goes to the Labour party and its about time some political education took place so as a informed debate can take place.

If someone is interested in politics and wishes to go to a meeting should I have to provide the wherewithal? To me it smacks of pre war Germany where the youth are schooled in the ways of a certain political bent to ensure continuity.
Should there be a political fund at all? IMO there shouldn't, any donations larger than a nominal sum, say £5000 annually, should be voted on merit not on political leanings. It is obvious to any but the slow witted that any affiliation to the labour party for what is deemed to be "input on labour policy" is totally wasted.

Maintained a series of anti-trade union laws. Closed down hospitals. Closed down schools. Sold honours for cash. Took cash for deputy leadership bids. Support the fascist government on Bolivia. Went to war for American oil interests.
Go on! Have a guess!
