COMMUNICATION WORKERS UNION:CHRISTMAS STRIKES TO GO ON AS ROYAL MAIL CEOs IGNORE PEACE COMPROMISE
COMMUNICATION WORKERS UNION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHRISTMAS STRIKES TO GO ON AS ROYAL MAIL CEOs IGNORE PEACE COMPROMISE
Planned Christmas strikes are set to go ahead, after Royal Mail bosses chose to ignore a peace offer from workers’ representatives to get Christmas back on track and tackle the postal backlog.
Today (Tuesday 13th December), the CWU made simple solutions to end the current dispute:
- A back-dated pay deal of 9% over 18 months;
- A long-term job security commitment from Royal Mail CEOs;
- A pause on the ongoing attacks on union representatives and members;
- A period of calm for negotiations on the future direction of the company.
In response, Royal Mail did not even offer to meet with the CWU, and has instead sent the union a 1-page document, via ACAS, at 3.45pm.
Additionally, Royal Mail also released a statement to the media at 3pm about the strikes, and released a strike-breaking video on internal social media channels aimed at breaking workers’ morale.
This now means that planned strikes on Wednesday 14th December, Thursday 15th December, Friday 23rd December and Saturday 24th December are set to go ahead.
CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: “Today’s actions by Royal Mail CEOs show they couldn’t be less interested in resolving this dispute or saving Christmas - their sole intention is to destroy the livelihoods of over 115,000 postal workers and wreck the service they provide.
“Posties are facing an outright assault on their livelihoods and dignity, and have no choice but to see this dispute through to its conclusion.
“The reckless, aggressive and bullying attitude from senior managers of this company is now totally out of control.
“When our members take strike action on Wednesday and Thursday, the question every media outlet should be asking is not why they’re striking, but why these people are being allowed to get away with the evaporation of a 500-year-old national treasure.”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Mmm interesting I think we may have crossed a line with the British Public there.
Sometimes you have to show humility.
Prepare for the full power of the British State against us.

The British public will work out what's going on when they have a 3 days letters service delivered by a different person each day in a white van.

Does anybody know the content of the letter sent to the Union through ACAS , as find it’s unbelievable that Royal Mail turned down that peace offer , what was the reason

Hold on a bit. The union, which is meant to represent us, and which has a mandate to negotiate an inflation based pay rise is only asking for 9% over 18 months.
Our own f***ing union want us to take a massive real terms pay cut. They had better change their ideas quickly or I'll be out of the union.

Do you really think most customers really care as long as there parcels arrive promptly? Long gone are the days of waiting for letters from loved ones etc to arrive.

You may as well quit now then as nobody is going to ask for more than 9%.Schiff wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 16:36Hold on a bit. The union, which is meant to represent us, and which has a mandate to negotiate an inflation based pay rise is only asking for 9% over 18 months.

The only mandate that they have from their membership is to achieve an inflation based pay rise. We haven't given them the authority to ask for less than that and no way am I ever voting to give myself a pay cut.TopperGas wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 17:10You may as well quit now then as nobody is going to ask for more than 9%.Schiff wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 16:36Hold on a bit.
