I and others on Reddit are puzzled as to how Special Delivery items can remain untracked for days at a time while other items can be in and out of the same Mail Centres in a matter of hours.
I posted a large Special Delivery box (14 kg) to Scotland on Friday 2 Dec. It was scanned at Wear Valley DO on 2 Dec but has not tracked since. I am told it was put on a trolley with only Special Delivery items on it, and that of course it left Wear Valley as normal.
By contrast a Tracked 48 coming from Scotland was in and out of Glasgow MC and Tyneside MC very quickly and was delivered to me early Thursday morning having been sent Tuesday morning.
So are there trolleys hidden away somewhere in Tyneside MC that are not getting processed?

I am going to presume that you have no affiliation with RM.PeterR wrote: ↑09 Dec 2022, 10:33I and others on Reddit are puzzled as to how Special Delivery items can remain untracked for days at a time while other items can be in and out of the same Mail Centres in a matter of hours.

At the moment RM is experiencing what was formerly known as Christmas pressure (pre privatisation).
During Christmas pressure RM employ 1000's of casuals who (no fault of theirs) know nothing about the business and how it works.
Pre privatisation the casuals would start at the beginning of November and would have time to learn about the various systems.
However now most casuals arrive 2nd week of December with the added attraction of extra volumes and only working ad-hoc days.
This year it has been compounded further by the strikes, on strike days the only people working are said casuals and managers (who have about as much of an idea about how it works as the new casuals!)
Unfortunately there will be some items that either get mis-sorted or stored somewhere where they shouldn't be.
In the mean time you should be able to take advantage of the Special Delivery guarantee and make a claim and hopefully your item will turn up at some point.

You'd think they would be "scanned everywhere they go", wouldn't you! But mine is a box about 45 x 30 x 30 cm and has had no scanning since the local delivery office on Friday 2 December. Check it out: SE115430724GB

If for some reason the special delivery number somehow has gotten lost in transit we may have to add a new tracking label to it, but we have no way to inform you of this.

The posties CAN NOT make a decision to not scan items, that's a managerial decision. I personally would make a complaint.

I sent a letter to Tyneside MC First Class on Monday asking them to look into what had happened to it. Is that roughly what you have in mind by "making a complaint"?

Yay! After no tracking since despatching DO on 2 Dec, my large Special Delivery parcel has reappeared in Dundee East DO at 6:35 this morning exactly 2 weeks later!

This item signed for by someone called 'COVID' and signature looks suspiciously like XP1!!
Even if recipient didn't want to sign on the PDA, the postie should surely be getting a name and using 'DWS'?
