Just had a text off my manager stating the business as made a decision that any sick from Friday will result in unauthorised absence and no pay. And the union have been notified. Can anyone clarify what to do, shall I go down the grievance route?

Pathetic attempt to get us to walk out and void the legitimate strikes by taking unofficial action?
Surely this is unlawful as it breaches the terms of our contracts??
Definitely put in a grievance and personally I would be calling Union line for legal advice. Hopefully the union will be broadcasting this in the media. Will strengthen our support from the public.

I believe if you're already off sick you'll continue to be trated as "Sick Abscence" Viper.

This new diktat is really aimed at people phoning in the day before, or the actual day, of Strike action (with the percieved view that they don't want to cross the picket line and they're trying to avoid losing pay by striking)

Double check with your Rep though and if you are being stopped pay the advice is to put in a Grievance ASAP. Get well soon.

Yes this action by management will be unlawful being no contractual obligation/provision exists without an investigation with the employees absence.

It will also be unlawful as management has to prove any absence was not genuine. That will be through a third party such as Occupational Health as management are not qualified to make that decision.

The Law states you either self certificate for the first seven days, then a doctors chit, so any non payment of wages will be contrary to section 13 Employment Rights Act 1996, unlawful deduction of wages as any deduction cannot be made in good faith.

Yeah I don't know the legal side of things but as said self certificate 7 days then supply sick notes. As far as I'm aware they cannot touch you. They can't just make up their own rules lol

I'm pretty sure that a company as full of malice and spite towards its employees, as Royal Mail clearly has, would have done this even long before Thompson and his smacked arse of a face turned up.
My hunch is, they never did, because it wouldn't, therefore still isn't, legit.
Just an attempt to scare colleagues into not going off sick if they need to, because management have created the most massive Christmas shitshow ever.
