Simon Thompson and his dodgy past

Post by goneaway »

I just stumbled on an old thread on the Digital Spy forum about Royal Mail's CEO, Simon Thompson. It's a thread talking about the Covid-19 Track and Trace debacle, where Simon was previously on that project for the government, before he became CEO at Royal Mail.

One contributor writes, talking about a government select committee hearing about Covid-19 track and trace:

"Worse, he [Lord Bethall] kept referring questions to an arrogant plonker called Simon Thompson, whose confidence seems to have come from being fired from Apple and Morrisons, and then completely failing to deliver the NHS contact tracing app. This had given him complete confidence that the app soon to be delivered, apparently, would work perfectly and be snapped up by everyone. He was quite unable, despite being pressed, to admit just what percentage of take-up there had been of the failed app on the Isle of Wight.

Another chips in, about Simon:

"OH MY GOD! That guy’s involved? It all becomes clear all of sudden. He’s famously regarded as being about the worst executive in Apple’s history. And this a company that a previous CEO had about 10 minutes from disappearing down the plug hole that is now literally worth a trillion dollars."

Full thread is here: https://forums.digitalspy.com/discussio ... worried/p1

Does anyone know exactly what he did at Morrisons and Apple to get fired? It would be most interesting to find out! Does anyone know about any other skeletons in Mr Thompson's cupboard?

Is there anything fishy about Simon being involved in Covid-19 track and trace and then in no time at all becoming CEO at Royal Mail, who got a lucrative contract for delivering Covid-19 test kits, when other couriers were and are available?

Just a further note, it seems Apple were very tight lipped about Simon's departure in 2011 and there's a suggestion he might not have had another job to go to.

Apple EMEA marketing boss Simon Thompson departs

Simon Thompson, one of Apple's top European marketers, has left the technology company after less than two years, Marketing understands.

Lastminute.com and Honda too !

It's a very impressive C.V. No doubt the gentleman excelled so much and so quickly that every corporation was begging for his presence, headhunted by the captains of industry and naming his own humble price. it's probably what attracted him to David Cameron and Dido Harding, similarly effectual operators and the nations saviours during the Covid pandemic, to run the very successful and useful track and trace.

Not a hint of 'fake it until you make it' about any of them and all completely above board I'm sure.

A case of it's not what you know, but who you know! Anyone of us on this forum, could do a better job of running the company than him. Actually a cardboard cut out of Moya Greene would be a better CEO. It's shameful that he is allowed to destroy the Royal mail.

He's been brought in to do a couple of very specific jobs, de-unionise Royal Mail and then break up the company. So as far they're concerned he's doing a terrific job. They must be delighted with him so far.

Bit of a long winded post so i apologise for that.
If you want to link it all up try this...
Grant Shapps - government minister.
Keith Williams - Chairman of the board(s)
Simon Thompson - Track n Trace / CEO RMG.

All 3 are conclusively linked and at best it is nepotism and or political interference from Williams.

Shapps and Thompson have one common denominator being Keith Williams.

RM want to reduce USO, who do they need to convince to champion that in government? Business Secretary? Who is the business secretary? Grant Shapps.

DK wants to takeover RM who does KW/DK need to rubber stamp the approval? Business secretary? Grant Shapps.

KW/DK need to show financial unsustainability of the USO/RM losing money and present the case for job losses & union busting? A face. Simon Thompson.

KW/GS have a documented history of anti union behaviour. Williams Shapps bill for rail reform (?).

So... if KW has a plan to facilitate DK to takeover and break up RM he needs an easily controlled, financially motivated and ambitious puppet to deliver the message. GS does a favour for his buddy KW to get ST involved with T&T app for big £. KW brings ST in to RM (now owes a favour) to deliver the bad news and put forth the plan. Part of the plan involves the reduction/removal of USO to increase profits & reduce workforce. IA results from the executive actions put in place from KW/ST further "proving" the point that the company is in financial difficulties as supported by some creative accounting. Go back to the original GS/KW favour. GS is now business sec so in position to rubber stamp DK/KW. Current PM states CWU strikes are "wrong" and that any pay increase is "unaffordable for the taxpayer". (wtf!?) Is this because our PM is ill informed or maybe a Freudian slip....(is the USO being readied for public ownership after the DK takeover?)

I may be way off base with this and I accept any scepticism. The thing is, we have 3 (4 if we include DK) main players that can all be linked quite easily through actual events. It's not so much of a leap then to connect the dots for any "hidden" events. The fact that every player possibly stands to make significant financial gains through "the plan" is surely cause enough to investigate.

I'll give the tin foil hat a break for the rest of the day. Enjoy your Sunday. 😊

Well, is anybody really surprised to learn about any of this . Seemingly Simon Thompson has failed everywhere so who better to bring in to destroy a 500 year old company .

I've always found ST government links concerning. I always keep my tin foil hat firmly tucked away. It's easy to make these sort of links and connections. I'm not so sure this is all a well oiled plan, being implemented by a billionaire, government ministers and a lackey who'll happily be the face of any business inflicting horrors on its workforce.

Bafffles me how someone actually decided he would be the right man. Unless it was because he was the right man for their agenda…

You see it in football a lot. A manager goes somewhere, does crap and gets relegated and then somehow finds another club willing to pay him millions.

Same with owners. Look at Mike Ashley. Bezos. Musk. Glaziers. They do not care about the working man. It’s all about profits.

The board meeting on Tuesday is key I think. If ST doesn’t get fired or come up with a very quick deal with the CWU then that will signal to me that the board are sharing (or steering) ST plans.

Sadly I think you are 100 % correct , we are seeing from how this government handed out PPE contracts worth millions to shall we say people they my have known , they are rotten to the core and anybody who thinks the USO will stop them from making a quick buck is seriously deluded .
