15% pay rise must be recognized for 10% inflation

Post by zhk »

We all know that the inflation is more than 10%. Pay increase is always in gross amount. Assume pay increase is 15%, Therefore, your net increase is 15% x 66.75 = 9.94% that will be in line with inflation. Whatever happens, any shortfall from 15% should be recognized as liability and RM owe to us. We always looking for the full 15% increase in cash pay, if RM is unable to pay upto that mark due to cash flow problem, the difference must be deferred. In future when cash flow improves, it must pay then. In worse case scenario if it cannot improve its cash flow, we claim the shares. We are effectively lending RM, there must be some sort of security and condition against this loan figure. Last thing - working condition remain unchanged otherwise extra cost need to be added.

Of course, working condition must be unchanged. It is not only the pay issue. Changing working terms and condition will costing us even higher than that. Both Pay and working terms and conditions are important.

It is still about pay. It is still about terms and conditions. The multiplication of those two factors are what, if the strikes etc don't succeed, will turn us in to a third rate workforce.

We shouldn't also forget thay whilst the rate of inflation is being cited at just over 10% - the inflation rate on food and some other essentials is somewhat higher.

Also, if the pay deal is for 18 months then we have to extrapolate that 10% to 18 months and not 12 (for the 10% inflation figure) which gives inflation of 15.5% from day 1 of that 12 months.

So, for any of those "I'd vote for 9%" people I keep hearing, our 7% + 2% lump sum which is around £500 (not "up to 9%") deal doesn't look so good.

Why?

Because it's not 9%.

So, assuming that the rate of inflation stays constant, any reasonable inflation-based 18 month deal should actually be around 15.5%.

It is about each individual member's personal red lines and any deal needs 50% of members to find the whole package acceptable or else industrial action will continue.

I won't vote in favour of any deal that provides a real terms pay cut (but the OP doesn't really do maths). For others it will be later starts and finishes, annualised hours or commit to deliver etc.

If Thompson had tried to do less this time round then he might have had a chance of 50% capitulating, then could have tried for more next year and the year after. Instead he has tried to go after both our pay rate and a whole raft of our terms and conditions in one go and simply can't be allowed to succeed, or else he will go after a similar attack on pay and Ts and Cs each year.

😅 He must have been away since the unions 1st demands cause even Dave ward isn't expecting the no strings pay rise anymore. We are more concerned with compulsory redundancies & late Start's now.

So it starts off about pay, then ST proposes to slash terms and conditions in return for a payrise, now you don't want the pay any more because of the threatened cuts to terms and conditions?

Do you see what has happened there?

We worked throughout the lock down time - the difficult time. We all earned right to work on current time. No redundancies, no change in working condition - out of question.

It's easy to post that but how many of us can strike indefinitely if the RM won't give us a no strings deal?

Back to the pay rise DW said earlier on Sky News he'd accept the £400m pay deal ST claims RM are willing to make, does anybody know what that means in % terms?

Yea we want the pay but if it was a choice between pay & work terms, I'm sure you would choose the later or would you rather finish 3 hours later?
