Asking a government who basically created the low wage/no protections/no rights gig economy to investigate RM is bordering on pointless.

Although at least he’s done something. Which is more than we can say for any of the rest of the Labour Party for the last decade.
They should have been told long ago their CWU “political donation” was being withheld for good unless they actually tried to defend the working men and women of this country.

The time for talking has long gone past its sell by date. Simon Thompson is simply counting down the days until 23 Demember, three weeks away.

Wow! It's astonishing to me how you all bang on about how this company treats us and when someone actually steps up and takes some action, any action, you all go defeatist and negative. As bigsacks said above, at least he's done something.
Correct, Grant Shapps is an absolute zero of a man apparently made of Teflon. But the point of this letter must surely be to alert Shapps and the rest of this week's tory government that the people of this country deserve better. Making this letter public must surely attract media attention and put the spotlight on the corrupt baskets.
If you're thinking it's too little too late, then it is...for you. I'll keep on banging the drum along with the likes of Jonathan Reynolds until the noise becomes too loud for them to ignore.

The letter's not about a union issue it's about a business issue. It's Shapps' job to investigate exactly this sort of behaviour whether there's a union involved or not.
Do I think he will? No, he's about as much use a flannel made of faeces. But the more people talking about it the better (and the letter is not just from an MP, he's the shadow secretary of state for business and industry).

I seem to recall the "gig economy" model was part of Osbourne's great plan to fudge the unemployment figures, along with changing the threshold for "full time" from 20+ hours to 16+ (I may be wrong about that, hatred clouds my memory).

When I wrote to Santa I didn't get everything I asked for but some of it ,and even what I didn't want was ok

This man is almost certain to be in government and in charge of the USO / Royal Mail's obligations in 2 years time.

My point is, if Thompson and his pals want the business to be sucessful long term, they will have to deal with a Labour government.

So they need to listen to what Labour are saying. Now. During this dispute.

This is good though, he's making this public and not just saying I'm supporting postal workers, but actually questioning the way RM are running the business and asking what the situation is for the future of the company. It doesn't matter if the mail is down, people still send letters through the post and we are the only ones that deliver it. So this is something that effects everyone and should be discussed in the government.
