CWU BREAKING NEWS
just got this on the union whatsapp:- CWU make further attempt to resolve ongoing dispute with offer of urgent negotiations.
The ball is firmly in the court of RM group CEO Simon Thompson.
dear simon, as you know your proposed agreement has been ananimously rejected by the unions postal executive.
the number of job losses associated with your plans for the future are completely unacceptable and reprents the biggest assault
on any group of UK workers in decades. only 18 months ago, your employees and our members were praised as key workers that
kept the country and the company going during the pandemic. it is outrageous that you now want to force through mass job losses,
including compulsory redundancies, as part of what can only be described as an asset stripping plan. it is also totally immoral and
potentially illegal, for you and the board to implement these proposals by choosing to simultaneously recruit unlimited numbers of
self-employed drivers and new entrants on significantly inferior pay, terms and conditions, rather than retaining loyal and hard-
working Royal Mail employees who still want a job. there is no union or worker in the country that would accept this position.
your proposals will also lead to the destruction of a 500 year old public service and the end of the Royal Mail brand as we know it.
imposing up to 3 hour later starts means you are abandoning the a.m. delivery period, forever denying the opportunity to develop
new products and services. this amounts to the company deliberately running down customer services and turning Royal Mail into
just another gig economy employer. on pay, you keep claiming that you what you are offering is worth 9%, you know this is not true
and our members have seen right through it. it is now incumbent upon you to re-engage in intensive negotiations with the union to
resolve this dispute-this is what your employees, our members and the public expect of the CEO. nothing else can be more important
This means you personally investing the time required to reach agreement. no more picking and choosing when you attend the
negotiations. The CWU remains committed to a negotiated settlement and will make ourselves available for talks later today and on
Monday and Tuesday. during our acas talks, the union put forward an alternative plan for the future, which you and your team
acknowledged had a lot of merit. it was also stated by your team that RMG board had a similar view. we now want to put our plan in
front of the RMG board and i will be writing separately to the chair Keith Williams and all board members on this. in the meantime
lets talk later today and make ourselves available as soon as possible for further direct negotiations or talks facilitated by acas.
yours sincerely Dave Ward general secretary CC Marina Glasgow, Keith Williams and Stuart McDonald

Re: CWU BREAKING NEWS
NOT breaking news, CEO has been on workplace tonight saying no new offer will be forthcoming. It’s on another thread, definitely not moving.

Re: CWU BREAKING NEWS
Apparently on workplace people are saying the CEO post is either a fake or a leaked copy of something to managers. What the hell is going on?

Re: CWU BREAKING NEWS
Potentially illegal to make redundancies whilst taking on self employed drivers .
Come on cwu this is isn't good enough , by this stage you should know if it's legal or not , guessing isn't acceptable .
Looking at the cwu who's who we have a head of legal dept but seems he's just a ex postman who's worked his way up the union , surely we have employment lawyers going thru these sort of details on the unions behalf ?

Re: CWU BREAKING NEWS
Time to announce fresh 48hr strikes, the first two being 28th & 29th December (captures Boxing Day sales), next 2nd & 3rd January, then 48hr per week.
Oh and CWU, pull your finger out and get a fresh ballot sorted to start from when the current ballots expire, and this time make sure that "or actions short of a strike" is also on the ballot

Team - there is a lot of noise about what happens next.
A final offer means just that - we will not be moving from here - it is important this is understood.
I was clear last week - one more day of strike action means no more talking.
We have always said - strike action will make our offer unaffordable - so if more strikes come - and it damages our profitability further the offer will be withdrawn - we will keep you in the loop.
It is important that this is well understood.
From a practical point of view what does this mean? - the pay offer for CWU grades this year would remain at 2% - and change and pay negotiations would start again - for the year commencing April 2023....

Would there be a difference if the redundancies were compulsory or voluntary ?themaze wrote: ↑27 Nov 2022, 22:07Potentially illegal to make redundancies whilst taking on self employed drivers .

Re: CWU BREAKING NEWS
My understanding is, you make jobs redundant not people, if you make someone redundant you cannot employ someone else to do that job. If people go voluntarily though, that is probably another matter as nobody is forcing them out and they are being compensated by getting more than the statuatory amount.tractorboy2 wrote: ↑28 Nov 2022, 09:32Would there be a difference if the redundancies were compulsory or voluntary ?themaze wrote: ↑27 Nov 2022, 22:07Potentially illegal to make redundancies whilst taking on self employed drivers .
