Delivery on strike days

Royal Mail today (on strike day) had many new faces entering our Delivery Unit, i have since been informed the delivery firm ‘Ryde’ was used to get workers to deliver premium products in our area, and others i believe.

On our picket line we witnessed many Ryde workers loading own vans, one loaded up their own car, surely not a good look for Royal Mail.

Also lead to believe this is at a cost as well, where drivers were paid £150+ to work for day.

Mr Thompson has put out there were 84% more staff in today than previous strike day, and these hired Ryde workers will make up alot of this figure.

But again the company has no money but plenty to cover our strike action

Because the Tory Government passed a law that allows companies to cover striking workers with agency staff.

Simon Thompsons job is to smash the CWU with whatever it takes so it makes it attractive for a takeover. And sadly, the implied intransigence of the CWU is a bonus in the long run and an aid to that goal

We got to speak to a couple of them. It would appear these guys have been brought in under false pretenses. The got told they got shifts because Royal Mail was very busy because of the time of year but was short staffed because lots of regular staff was on holiday. They got a shock when we told them they were brought in to cover our strikes and they are actually crossing an official picket line. Some turned round and would not go in. Another underhanded tactic to bring in a new agency hoping they would be oblivious to our cause!

Work in the post office, been told every strike day that we would get a collection because we’re a busy mails branch, knocked a manager back on the last strike day because he didn’t have ID, he was fuming got the collections manager on the phone “I’m blah blah you must know me?!”, truth be told we didn’t know him from Adam so no post left that day so I reckon we are blacklisted for collections on strike days which really doesn’t bother us in the slightest, our little way of supporting you guys, anyway I’ve gone off on a tangent, thought we were getting a collection yesterday did the usual “have you got your ID on you?” and braced myself for another kick off with RM “heavies” , he was just dropping off, said he was from a company called “ride”, never heard of them, poor fella didn’t have a clue how to work the PDA (neither do I so couldn’t help), so this firm is definitely covering you guys on strike days. Also had a PF collection, first time on a strike day, had PF ID so couldn’t refuse, but he had a bit of drama scanning the parcels in, had to do them all manually, entering the address and everything, bit of a shambles really

A lot of support for you guys in post office all of us in ours wish we could join you on picket line but we’re just a sub so can’t even strike ourselves
