There you go. As a forewarning, it doesn't make for good reading.
The "alternative business plan" laid out in section 4 makes it abundantly clear that the Union has no alternative business plan. It includes such wonderfully vague (but ESG buzzword friendly) suggestions like: postal workers "becoming advocates for environmental change", "supporting communities" and "assisting the levelling up agenda."
They proposed nothing commercially viable. Not a single marketable product. Nothing that would generate revenue to pay our wages.
Ostensibly, there is no plan - just a suggestion to create a collaborative focus group to talk about maybe, one day, making a new plan.
This counter-proposal demonstrates just how far from a resolution the Union really are. If anything it shows that they're essentially not interested in ever resolving the dispute. They don't want to engage with reality. If at this late stage, they thought the company would accept any part of that proposal then they are genuinely and hopelessly deluded.

Re: Where is it ???
In fact, Royal Mail trolled the CwU in their final offer by stating that they are prepared to work with the CWU in diversifying the business (how - the CWU did not even say). They also agreed to work with the CWU on 'levelling up' (whatever that means) to avoid a race to the bottom.
The CWU just want most of the status quo. How can they get out of that cul de sac they have put themselves with their nonsense proposals after 7 months of talks and 3 weeks of intensive talk?
There are just 2 options left - continue the strikes and then stop or be stopped (by the members going back voluntarily or us being fired after Xmas) or surrender quickly and live to fight another day (but the wound by be too fatal for a reprise).
Even the most ardent supporters of the CWU cannot now see a way forward if the strikes carry on.

Re: Where is it ???
CWU alternative plan:
This must build on the strategy agreed in the Pathway to Change Agreement
and should be seen as an alternative to abandoning the a.m Delivery period.
RMG will invest in a project with CWU to diversify and grow the business
beyond letters and parcels, exploring new commercial markets, supporting
communities, driving local and regional business growth, introducing new
local-to-local services and acting as an advocate for environmental change.
We will also jointly approach the Government, Metro Mayors and local
Councils with a plan to put RMG and its workforce at the centre of community
wealth building projects and approaches to assist the UK economic recovery
and levelling up agenda.
The above approach will focus on how we can utilise Royal Mail’s competitive
advantage in its unique reach in delivering daily to 32 million addresses and
the special relationship that employees have with customers on the doorstep.
The plan will also focus on how we can use Royal Mail’s existing
infrastructure, including Mail Centres, to support new revenue streams.
CWU are ready to meet the RMG Board and present the above as part of an
alternative business plan. CWU also has a coalition of partners ready to
support this approach.

Re: Where is it ???
The above makes total sense. It just doesn't have anything specific set in stone.... it's about speaking to customers, local governments in terms of how Royal Mail could help them in other ways.
I am sure they could find a few new revenue streams this way.
Do we have unused space at Mail Centres that we could sub-let or use for other purposes like having our own 'big yellow self-storage' at some depots?
At the mail centre I work out there is a lot of spare space.

Stinks of ESG.
See what the French La Poste do for a future delivery model proposed by the Union.

Perhaps but one thing is for certain, you can’t be privatised for nearly 10 years, make good profits in the last 2 years, spend £70 million making managers redundant, pay out 500 million to share holders, pay big bonuses to the big bosses and lower management, invest 100s of millions in super hubs and then come crying that you’ve got to change every aspect of a postal worker’s conditions because you’re going out of business, it defies logic.
It’s a levelling down agenda, they’re not interested in being the Rolls Royce of deliveries, they want to be another Fiat and they may get their way, but not without a fight and when this great institution lies in ruins, we will know that pure greedy and public apathy are to blame rather than posties.

Re: Where is it ???
I'm pretty sure that if any of us wanted to work as social workers, handymen, carers etc then we would have applied for those jobs to start with.
That CWU proposal was complete nonsense.

Re: Where is it ???
Well, if it's so easy to find them, could the CWU oblige the rest of us (and apparently the company) by providing a few examples, if this is what the CWU are striking to achieve.
Should we be asking councils how much they'd pay postal workers to scrape gum off the pavement? Might as well, right? That's "utlizing the competitive advantage" we have from walking the streets every day, right? How about feeding people's cats when they're away? Or walking their dogs? Surely there's an easy billion in revenue to be found by washing people's cars for them?

Re: Where is it ???
They want to make so much changes to our T&C, that are completely unacceptable, OK the changes the union want implemented will take time if they are ever accepted by the company. The changes RM want to make are not just unacceptable they are completely unachievable, hence the stalemate, we side with the union because this is the only way forward, and it has been said many times before, that there is no plan B from the union , well the RM plans are to DECIMATE our jobs, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you all make the right decision ..........

I think there could be something else out there that could bring in revenue, but why they have no examples is beyond me.
Anyhow - I have no time for extra work as things stand. Rushing about each day just to get my duty done.

Re: Where is it ???
An easier option would simply be that Royal Mail pass on the letters side of the business back to the government for cheap seeing as they see it as a burden. Most, if not all of us can work for the government delivering letters, whilst Royal Mail can go off down their slave labour gig economy route with parcels. Employing a new work force that's happy to live on a pittance and be treated like dirt.
