Expanding the role of Postal Workers

How do the union want to expand the role of postal workers? I can see why Royal Mail would be up for shovelling more work on to us but unless they plan on hiring more posties (which they wont) and making rounds smaller I can't see how this is possible. They have already hit us with extra collections this year which take up quite a bit of time some days and when it is a bit quieter in the summer there is lapsing. If anything we should reduce the role of postal workers so we can stick to our task.

Not sure either, time will tell.
We have had lapsing all year round for the last 6years now, including COVID summer and winter. Just last year they got rid of a walk and increased the lapsing across the remaining walks.
Most if not all offices are understaffed.

I do agree that we have an advantage delivering to 32million address, just not sure how we can expand that to bring new revenue in.

The only expanding of our role seems to be expanding the walk size to over 5hrs 30.

You jest. In our delivery off there was a now-retired guy who was a world unto himself. He was made for working alone.

When van sharing came in he left his partners exasperated, waiting for 1/2 an hour or more.

Twice they went looking for him. Once he was found sat down on a doorstep reading someone's newspaper. Another time he was actually mowing the lawn of an elderly lady.

The union's plans are an idea, nothing more (that I know of). Anyone can have an idea. Turning that idea into a plan of action, in this case a PROFITABLE plan of action, is an entirely different matter. The Union's role is to protect/improve our terms and conditions. They should stick to their strengths. Community support is an attractive sounding idea (to some) but who will pay for it?

If it is like the scheme introduced in France people pay to have their elderly relatives checked upon, potentially earning more money than delivering letters.

Since the clocking in & out & overtime ban, anyone else find their office full of frames & frames of undelivered mail, we used to have an half empty canteen, now you are lucky to find a seat, surely if we had revisions on these PDA actuals they would be taking loops off the walks?

No, because they are fiddling the figures, hiding failures etc. 99% of DOMs are in on it & those that aren't are usually shuffled to the side.
