Can we acquire Royal Mail
Have we ever noticed how much in our pension pots. Two schemes (RMDCP and RMDB cash balance) combinedly have about £3 billions. RM market capital value in the range of £2.5 billions. Need half of our pension fund to acquire 50% of RM equity and take control of the company. Money cannot be taken out personally(before retirement age) but trustees can invest it with the consent of member to any investment option. Why not invest in RM equity and solve the current dispute. Effective we will be the RM management ( i.e., our nominated people). How much we will get and how long we need to wait for our pension - is it worth compared to final salary pension. Someone will acquire if we don't. We should be working for ourselves not for somebody else. Give your opinion.

Pension scheme members have no control over where the trustees invest the money.zhk wrote: ↑21 Nov 2022, 17:41Have we ever noticed how much in our pension pots. Trustees are impartial and they act on behalf of members. Trustees make the investment decision based on members choice (if expressed). Someone will acquire if we don't.

It is your money but trustees are custodian. Trustees works for the benefit of members only. If union wants, they can communicate with trustees.

The trustees work for the benefit of our pension money. Selling half of the existing investments and ploughing all that cash in RM shares, isn't doing that.

RM Defined cash balance scheme is administered by RM and its financial statement shown as liability against scheme assets. RM can create share and swap with scheme assets and cancel liability. There are proper accounting procedure to make it happen. All current year loss can be adjusted from the proceed before any profit for distribution among exiting shareholders.

Re: Can we acquire Royal Mail
Maybe instead of striking, we go to work and then everyone buys however many euro millions lottery tickets you can for the amount you would have given up by striking. Surely one of us would win big......and then share it all by buying what's left of a failing business.
Or we could all blow our pensions on the same thing....
Any other daft ideas?

The DBCBS is indeed on the RM balance sheet(I assume you've now done a bit more homework?) and it's ultimately up to the company to fund our lump sums.
There is no ability for the company to dip into the DBCBS pot, as there are laws against it.
Those laws were brought in after what Robert Maxwell did to his company pension scheme.
Got any more crack pot ideas?
