How accurate are the manual Parcel Sorting Machines?

Post by nitx96 »

Hey guys, new here!

I have two questions about the processes at HWDC:

1. Is there a known average rate of error % for the Manual PSM's (Voice Encoding Station)?

2. How often do the parcels that have fallen off the conveyer into the safety nets get cleared?

Cheers!

I believe that there's basically 3 types of PSM:

* Te huge ones in the new super-hubs (currently only one is online AFAIK)
* Larger ones in larger MCs
* A smaller version in smaller MCs (don't know if any of these are online yet)

There's technically a fourth type if you include HWDC

It's probably more accurate for stuff leaving the UK. Some of the foreign mail has such tiny writing on the address labels, and some have the address "hidden" in the customs form

I could imagine the lack of standardisation makes it bloody hard work! I take it there's no known rate of error then? i.e. 3-5%?

Also, any idea how often the nets below the conveyers get cleared?

The engineers at our MC check them after the backshift is done daily.

Cool thanks for that info!

Still hoping someone can give me info the sorting machines. I spoke with some manufacturers at the Post and Parcel Expo, some of them claimed 3-4% others claimed 8% and two even claimed 10% rate of error for manual sorters. It would obviously vary from sorting centre to sorting centre. But very curious to know what it is at the HWDC
