Redundancy - does the DOM decide?

On Saturday I thought I'll chat to my dom about the realistic chances of a pay off.......

He said no chance mate, we are understaffed here, so only 1 or 2 will go and it'll be those in their sixties nearing retirement.

So judging by what he said there will not be a mass exodus of fit healthy staff which crushed my hopes somewhat.

But then what does the dom know?

I don't get the business logic in paying somebody for 30+ years service when they are already nearing retirement, the chances are they are also reliable workers if they've served that long at RM.

No wonder it's losing £m's.

Have quite a few in mc over 65 no intention of retiring

At least 10000 people have got to go by next summer so it’s worth putting in for redundancy if you want it. Your com might not have any say in it.Royal Mail are not bothered if your own office can’t cope it’s a number crunching exercise that gets ticked off.

Exactly. RM know they have an aging workforce. The older staff will leave of their own accord in due time. This, plus paying off younger staff on the old terms and conditions means a more rapid change to the new, shitty terms and conditions. Bingo, Amazonification complete.

There's a few like that in my MC as well . They might not have any choice if they are made compulsory redundant
