Where can the CWU go from here? I don’t think a strongly worded letter to MPs will cut any mustard in the current climate.

The BofE WANT unemployment to rise, I don't know how they plan on it happening as we currently have companies crying out for staff. I was only mentioning it as it doesn't bode well for anyone trying to get some extra money to cope with the current economical dungstorm...

Hes not won anything yet. Neither has the union. Its come to the point that both are as bad as each other.

Simon wants to take a lot of stuff from us in our current agreement, which some of it I agree and the majority i don't.

The union want everything to stay the same and keep its members happy by doing this. We have to adapt to change so as the business can have a healthy future, but personally striking during xmas is going to be bad for all of us. If it's not worked in the past striking how is it going to work now. After xmas us Turkey's will be culled and the staff you see today will no longer be around that includes myself.

If you call canning a profitable business of £750 million to a loss making £220 million a win, and are the head of this calamity, then you certainly have strange standards!!

If you call canning a profitable business of £750 million to a loss making £220 million a win, and are the head of this calamity, then you certainly have strange standards!!

It hasn't been Simon Thompsons job to deliver huge profits. He was brought in to do what Rico Back didn't have the intelligence to do........break the CWU. And break Royal Mail up.

I think that's something the union didn't seem to grasp and might only be starting to realise now.

The union has been focused on getting something that wasn't on the table right from the start, an old school agreement that would settle things down for a couple of years until the next flash point.

RM don't want an agreement as such and they don't want to settle anything down because they want an environment that's constantly changing (or evolving depending on your POV) and you can't do that with rigid agreements.

As far as RM are concerned the only way out of this is to negotiate/mitigate each change individually and move on knowing that nothing from now on will be carved in stone.

That's why they will make concessions on each issue during the negotiations but the won't put anything in writing.

He might win in the short term but he's destroyed the morale of his entire workforce and it won't take long for the new starters to get fed up of doing the same job for less pay.

It's unrecoverable for him, so he might think he's done a great job at ripping up all the agreements and terms but in doing that he's doomed himself/the company in the long run because the people that do the work don't care anymore and won't care again.

Funny, I thought the idea of business is to make a profit and not destroy the means of making it. Sad board of directors we have in charge.
