Deliberately misleading over Statutory Sick Pay (worth 0)

We've received a printout from Simon, mentioning that after the first absence in a 12 month period:
the first 3 days would be on Statutory Sick Pay rates, then it goes normal pay for the rest of that absence.

That doesn't sound too bad, except Statutory Sick Pay is £0 until day four.

So if you're off for 3 days= no pay.
Off for a week (5 working days)= 2 days pay.

Just wanted to point that out, since 3 days of Statutory Sick Pay doesn't sound too bad, when in reality it means £0.

IIRC the first absence in a 12mth period is all paid, I think what is being referred to here is for subsequent absences.

Whats hes saying is that the second absence, you wont get paid at all unless you are off for more than three days in that absence

This has been discussed previously, if you're ill for a few days (and it's your second absence that year), you might as well take the whole week off in those circumstances. Weird proposal.

I don't think it's ever been confirmed if RM intend paying no sick pay for the first 3 days, which does seem unlikely, or paying the weekly SSP rate for those 3 days (they probably don't know the answer anyway!).

They've put it in their 'proposal' that they intend to pay 'SSP rates' for the first 3 days of your second absence - knowing full well that the guidance states
An employer does not have to pay SSP for the first 3 qualifying days of sickness absence. These 3 days are called 'waiting days'

SO, this is exactly what Moya Greene was wanting. Except Thompson tries, as said above, to make it sound like you would actually get money for those 3 days, which you won't !!
