The announcements were made to us but the formal legal notification to RM has to take place today - 14 days before the proposed action.

Dave & Co mentioned in the last member meeting that even if an agreement has been made, they still need to ballot members on whether we agree or not. So strikes will still be on regardless.

A lot more red tape but the right decision.

If the black friday strikes were on regardless then whats the incentive for RM to make an agreement? The whole point of them is to force RM's hand to an extent - so if the plan is for them to still go ahead even if we were being balloted on a provisional agreement then that incentive for RM to come to an agreement isnt there.

If the black friday strikes were on regardless then whats the incentive for RM to make an agreement? The whole point of them is to force RM's hand to an extent - so if the plan is for them to still go ahead even if we were being balloted on a provisional agreement then that incentive for RM to come to an agreement isnt there.

When you have a tactical weapon, it is no weapon at all unless the other side truly believes you will deploy it. If the dual pressure of half-year financial results (due a week today on the 17th) and a looming 48-hour stoppage doesn’t force RM’s hand, nothing will.
If a deal is put out to a vote before the 24th, we can always cancel the strike at short notice, preferably giving notice of a fresh 48-hour stoppage, to commence 2 days after the ballot closes (to cover the possibility of a ‘no’ vote)

What im responding to though is the notion that the strikes will be on regardless if we have an agreement we are being balloted on or not

If RM know the strikes are going ahead even if they come to an agreement in the room that is being put to the members then the incentive of getting a an agreement to stop Black Friday strikes going ahead isnt there

So what im saying is, keeping the strikes going ahead even if we are at the stage of being balloted means less likely RM would come to an agreement

The likelihood is, the strikes would be called off if we got to the stage of going to the membership I would imagine

The problem with that is, if the membership vote to reject the deal then we have lost our strongest weapon as you put it unless the agreement and ballot could be finalised before the 24th which is very unlikely
