Meeting with RM ROD and HR BP - Glasgow 02/11/22

Post by Woody Guthrie »

Delivery Function
Each Com has been briefed on a WTLL session to take place in every unit before Monday 7th November.
The WTLL will explain the financial position of the Company and announce that revisions will be implemented by February 2023. RM hope that the CWU will assist in this process.
If not the Com will present proposals to the Unit based on Pathway to Change Year two WIPWH figures and revised traffic for Period 12 model week. Spend will be compared against TM1. Where this illustrates Full Time Equivalent surplus staff an assessment will be made on whether this can be achieved by natural attrition (people leaving the business) cutting overtime or reducing temporary staff.

Where not then volunteers will be sought for voluntary redundancy NOT on MTSF terms. If there are no other options then there will be compulsory redundancies.
There is a legal process to follow where these FTE numbers are in excess of 20. IR disagreements will run in line with the legal process on consultation. Where a disagreement is submitted it will be considered in the seven day timetable.

The Divisional Reps asked for clarification on several points and the RM team were unable to answer. We doubted the ability of some Com’s to deliver this message in the way intended by RM. We indicated that we were concerned then that questions would be directed to the local Unit Rep and given that this senior team were unable to answer us what hope did the local or Area Rep have?

In addition RM intend to run 121 sessions with staff to explain that Sunday’s would be covered by volunteers or new staff on new T&Cs and that they would not be impacted. The new mail arrival times would also be explained (Scotland being at the end of the pipeline meant that the second wave would arrive in Mail Centres circa 07.10 Edinburgh and circa 06.50 Glasgow with 30 minute turnaround time. This would determine what time wave 2 arrived at DO’s Aberdeen and Inverness yet to be clarified.
RM hope that this will be better accepted in London, Midlands etc where the impact was less severe.

The Divisional Reps have advised RM that we will be advising all Unit and Area Reps and members in Delivery that the CWU has no part in these decisions and that any questions should be addressed to the individual Com. We will not subject local Reps to any further stress when they are already under attack by RM.

They cannot give you less than statuatory redundancy and too be quite honest, I would go for that today, not even tomorrow, show me where to sign and I will go. With all the vacancies I doubt anybody will get made redundant, so many are quitting, if they offload people also there will be nobody left.

In the proposal Thompson said as above about Sunday’s but also said if not enough doing it then it would have to be looked at again. I would say that’s making people work it also no later than a 5pm finish for some offices but he doesn’t want the competition hoovering up business because we finished our shift so again would say this is just a smokescreen to get us to agree.

theres a recession coming, unemployment to go up rapidly, jobs be scarce, so 9 months redundancy aint enough, its a big come down from 24 months, if royal mail don't put it to at least 12 months then they will struggle to get people going voluntary

Let's picture the scene, start a new job at rm, just above minimum wage so s**t pay, wage f****d up in 1st monthly pay regards overtime not paid, pissed about from day one, no backup from manager, no training from the workplace coach because he can't be arsed with the inconvenience, yeah you'd be off faster than our last 3 new starters who'd have given Usain bolt a run for his money when it came to getting out of here.

Good that this has been recognised. At a local level it's been really tough this week...getting it from both sides, not just RM.
